Mega Shinkai! Once again the power of Mega Shinkai domination has led KnNw to #1. This might be one of the last times we see KnNw on top so this must be appreciated.
Nice to see KnK make it. Also, in a right world, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions would have made the list. |

How come the One Piece and Dragon Ball movies always sell a lot but the DVDs not? I was always curious about it.

Interesting seeing how many of these are movies. Seems like they really are the future.

Kemono Friends would be among the top-sellers too.

The entire world is entranced by mystical body-swapping, it would seem.

Too bad Kemono Friends doesn't qualify because of its strange release method. It would definitely be up there though. Probably in the 400-500 range, if I remember right.

A couple of movies are easier and cheaper to collect than 1000 episodes. |

Anime is dead. Gone are the days of Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, and Jin Roh, hello the uninformed massess who want a husbando with no regard for quality of storytelling and thematic explorattion - and no psuedo intellectual normie media "analyst (looking at Mothers "red can mean danger and water is wet!!" Sellout, Digibroni, and Gig "I was better in 2010" guk) is going to tell me otherwise. |

I guess AoT season 2really didn't make much of an important in sales this year. I know they sold as two 6 episode sets, but I didn't think sales would drop so much considering the juggernaut it was 4 years ago. The hope the manga's popularity will let the anime continue past the upcoming 3rd season.

@A Man named RJ Mass popular media is going to consistently sell very well, that doesn't mean niche material will not be made or be financially successful in its own right.
Also, for the record, none of the things you listed were very popular or successful in the years they came out either. They were all overshadowed in the exact same way by the mass market popular media of their respective years. Last edited by relyat08 on Sun Dec 24, 2017 12:09 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I found the high ranking for Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru pretty surprising. I've never heard of this show before, and the scores given it here are pretty unimpressive. Why is this such a hit in Japan?

Because of the voice actors and videogame

It's one of those multi-media hits that lives off of its video game husbandos. Kind of like Fate Grand Order, I think(though I've never played this, that's just how people have described it to me), but more focused on hot guys who are literally anthropomorphized historical swords. |
