More anime movies making it into theatres and turning a profit is news any anime fan should appreciate.

Not Anti-SAO fans, though. |

When you put it into Yen, it looks impressive. But is $2 million in ticket sales really a theatrical success? Surely the budget of the movie is over $10 million.

Last week it ranked #8 in Australia with sales of AU$265,001.
That's just over ¥23 million. Your Name grossed AU$927,335 over its run. |

Mind sharing the source of your information? Crunchyroll says the movie made around $15 million. http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2017/03/16/japan-box-office-sword-art-online-the-movie-has-earned-17-billion-yen-in-4-weeks And official numbers from outside Japan (minus the US) earned $1.5 million. http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Gekijo-ban-Sword-Art-Online-Ordinal-Scale-(Japan)/South-Korea#tab=international So while it very well might've hit the $20 mil mark, without knowing the movie's budget, it's hard to really tell if it is a success or not. |

Keep in mind this is an anime film. For more information on the costs, refer back to the following article (the last 3 paragraphs are the most relevant): animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2015-09-08/.92622 Keep in mind the budget of the latest live action Godzilla in Japan was only $15 million. |

And while SAO is pretty popular, it doesn't quite move as many discs as other big series like Love Live, Madoka, Girls und Panzer, Monogatari, with the exception of the 4th, those saw ~$20M+ boxoffices too. I wouldn't be surprised if Ordinal Scale was expected to make around that from the start but I highly doubt they'd spend around half that making a movie for a late-night anime. |

This ran in U.S. theaters, without a dub, and made a million U.S. dollars? That sounds impressive, is it? Is the upcoming dubbed showing going to double that?(probably not, but almost definitely there should be an uptick)

did not you just say the movie's biudget was 10 million? lol. most likely it was 1 million, 2 VERY tops and we have to add bluray sales which should be at least 50k. |

I'd hope they'd try and increase the amount of theaters and showings when it did as well as it did for a single day and subbed. |

Shockingly, it looks like the dub is only being put into a fraction of the theatres that got the subbed release. |

No, I said "surely the budget is over $10 million", not that it was a budget of $10 Million. The point how much it made relative to it's budget. That's how movie success is measured. If it made more, then it's a success. |

That's pretty good for a bad anime!
