I saw her a few days ago. Didn't notice she was a robot at first; just went to the information desk to look at a map and looked up when she spoke Chinese and was all like, damn, a robot. Personally I wasn't that impressed, not when the toilet talks and random plastic statues talk.

That's the problem with the uncanny vally: you're basically shooting at a half-inch target from a mile away in strong wind. Her motions being as mechanical as you see at Chuck E Cheese certainly isn't helping.

I understand the intention, but my God that thing is in the very nadir of the uncanny valley. That hand...*shudder*

Well as long as some weird Japanese guy doesn't start trying to make out with it or take it home as his "waifu", I think we'll be ok. Laughing I guess that's why they went for the more homely look there.

Junco's movements are a bit robotic, but I think they're close to getting realistic...

Well it's a start I'll give it that and I'm sure that as time progresses robotic technology will only get better and better so much so that we may soon have an uprising on our hands. Laughing

If you ask me,there's wrong with this robot. And,that she looks like she stepped out of the 1970's movie "The Stepford Wives." That has to be one of the creepiest looking things I've ever seen in my life.

In addition to the Uncanny Valley, I just don't trust machines to provide me with information I want. Speech recognition has grown by leaps and bounds, but computers still have a LOT of trouble understanding the words humans say, especially the between-the-lines stuff. As a result, automated systems annoy me when I'm on the phone because of how unhelpful they are, and those "Was this helpful to you?" step-by-step help guides online even more so. If I truly need help, I need a human because only humans can fully comprehend what I want to know. This robot is the customer service desk equivalent of those automated systems.

I understand why these companies would have them, but they put too much stock in them, I'd say. It's a good thing most of them will transfer you to a human if the computer doesn't give a straight answer to what you want. (The worst one I've had recently was with JC Penney, whose automated system asks what you want, and you have to speak it out loud. "Press 1 for A, Press 2 for B," etc. would have been way more efficient.)
