this is so dehumanizing. uh, not you, ANN, nor the information itself, just the general otaku cultural landscape. i am 90 percent certain that "anime girl" is an entirely different concept from "actual girl" at this point.

-9 isnt considered to cold here in Canada, or at least the part where i live. Most people just walk out in a sweater and pants.

Cuteness or comfort? The two are not mutually exclusive. The girl on the right is displaying both. In fact, I would argue that because she is warm and clearly quite happy, that makes her even cuter.

The shoujo Goofus and Gallant? Laughing What's funny is that someone at BAAF '03 was addressing the director of the first Initial D anime movie with that same issue, since Natsuki also wears a short skirt in similar snowy weather. I don't remember his response to that, other than implying that she was that much of an eccentric character.

See, the girl on the right adapts to situations and has decision making prowess. She's the pal you want to have in the cold winter days. Probably why she topped the poll.

So Japan has stolen Europe's Winter. Give it back man, nature is getting outta wack here! Been seeing flowers who usually appear in March already

Anyway, as long Left isnt being pushed by the schools everyone should just do what they like. Though I usually just wear the same set up excluding a jacket regardless of season.

Was it ever really a question whether people should value their health and safety over an outfit?

Does Japan not know that there are also cute winter clothes?

That was my question too: I thought school uniforms were strictly school-regulated by calendar, and if a student wore long underwear or snow boots on a cold day when the school was still on fall calendar, they'd be confiscated.

Thought the debate was going to be over the need to break "established" uniform just to keep from getting hypothermia, not J-chauvinistic otaku stereotypes about skirts, glasses and knee socks.

Are Japanese high school girls even allowed to wear pants to school?

At my high school in DC, girls could wear whatever uniform pants or skirts so long it abides by the school colors and respectable height. Possible the girl students have no choice but to wear skirts even in 15 F windy weather. Invest in wool thigh highs ladies!
