Is there any news on whether Viz will release a box set or Thinpak for Bleach? Given there recent releases of boxed sets/multi-disc releases for Naruto...I would speculate that they would. However, I wanted to check if there has been anything more formal than my speculation...and if so, what is their timeline?
Cheers!

Dude the first DVD JUST came out. Have some patience it's going to be a while. It'll be at least after they get the first 7 or 12 episodes finished on DVD.
And yeah. Of course they would. Bleach is one of Viz's most popular titles.

Dude...I know the first dvd just came out, I own it.
I'm just curious as to whether there has been anything official...beyond your simple statement "of course they would" and my speculations.

There hasn't been anything official. It seems Viz waits about 3 years before releasing a collection. Only vol. 2 of Bleach has been solicited.

They've only recently recently the InuYasha 3rd season box. Be prepared to wait awhile is my guess.
*edit: Also, the Naruto box set is there to offer us true Narutards a chance to buy the original episodes, not the butchered Toonami versions. Like InuYasha, the Bleach dvd's aren't edited & come w/Japanese audio.

Usually you can expect a full box set 6 months to a year after the last dvd is released. Of course, not every series gets a boxset. Then there is the matter of the thin pack, and that is an even more rare event. The thin pack usually doesnt come out until quite some time later after the boxset. There is no way anyone would release a discounted boxset while people are still paying full price for each dvd.
So in short, you still have a very long wait my friend.

Also, the Bleach Adult Swim airings are unedited (except for shortening of time, and that's CN's doing), so Viz is being lazy by placing the un-shortened Adult Swim airings on DVD instead of using the original masters they received to do the airings. It might matter to some, there are overlays on the DVD release, but they are not placed on the Japanese text, but they are placed near the original text, in the same color and equivalent English font. It usually occurs when Rukia writes or draws something.

I wonder if they will do this for the eventual box sets as well. Personally, I'm waiting for those rather than picking up the singles. There are just too many episodes of Bleach to buy the single discs. (At the rate they're going, it'll likely be three or more times the length of Inuyasha.)
The overlays don't really bother me personally, Viz has managed to make them fit into the scene rather well. Still, I hope they remove them for the box sets in the future.
Also hope they have a much better freebie in the box sets than a sheet of stickers. What do they think we are, little kids? (Now excuse my while I go and hug my Babbit plushie that came with my second Kodocha LE box. )

I can understand why the original poster might ask about a set since Naruto gets "sets" right away, but Naruto is a unique situation. Nothing has been mentioned regarding a Bleach box, but I wouldn't expect one until late 2008 at the earliest.
It seems like they've done a nice job with the single disc (unless overlays bother you), but I simply can't spare the cash or shelf-space for a series that will surely exceed 50 volumes unless the manga ends with the arc it is currently on.
I usually don't by singles for series that are more than 52 episodes (or about 12-13 volumes), though I'm making an exception for Kodocha.

no offense but butchered might be taking it a little too far. from what i've heard the naruto dvds aren't that much different. edit:and because inuyasha is o adult swim, it is edited even less
as for bleach, it depends i think on the success of the singles. if the singles sell well enough, then they will wait. but if they do not sell as well as viz needs them to, they might try releasing a lower priced box set to try and entice the (no offense) penny-pinching fans to buy it. if they can get enough people to buy the lower price to make up for the loss of profit in the singles department, then they may release them sooner rather than later. or may way of thinking is completely opposite of what is going through viz's minds and they decide to kick me out of the building for thinking up such a crappy idea.

Speculation is pointless. It didn't take long for Naruto to get a boxset, so we can assume it will happen for Bleach sooner or later. Until then, the first DVD just came out, so be patient...
