Within the last two weeks, I've tried ordering Limited Edition versions of FUNi's Speed Grapher, Basilisk, and Trinity Blood DVDs. However, after placing my orders, I keep getting messages from the online retailers saying the items had been cancelled and discontinued after they just came out this month!

Needless to say, I saw SG Vol. 3 & 4 LE up at Best Buy and bought them since they had a little $5 savings deal going. But yeah, I'm wondering why the heck I can't order, let alone find a lot of these online anymore.

Right Stuf is out of TB Vol.2, and I've gotten cancellation/discontinued notices from Anime Nation, Deep Discount DVD, and DVD Planet. Maybe they (FUNimation) are trying to force consumers to buy them in-store now so we can pay a little more than what we'd find them for over the Internet?

Or buy from the FUNi store on-line? You didn't mention if you tried there.

Which retailers are you using? They may be offering something that, simply put, they don't have in their possession. A lot of retailers, if they think they can get a product through backorder or are too lazy to take down the link when they run out, continue to offer a product even when they don't have it on hand.

Also, Funi's LE releases have been selling out at the wholesale level very quickly. They're only making 15,000 (I think) of each release. I know Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid's LE Volume 1 with artbox is long sold out at Funimation's level, which means that every single copy has already been sent to somewhere that ordered it, be it a brick and mortar or an online retailer.

People are starting to buy the LE's more regularly since they're often so much better than the normal editions and for the more popular titles, that means "buy it now or never!"

You just can't wait with the LE's anymore.

I personally haven't seen the FMP second raid box anywhere, Bestbuy said they sold out on say one and even my local anime store only had 2 or so, and even then I couldn't get one since they were already spoken for.

As for other LE funimation dvds, personally I have all of Speed Grapher, Trinity Blood, and Basilisk and most of those were from Rightstuf sales. I did pick up Basilisk from my local anime store, but other then that I do see LE version of Speed Grapher at my local Bestbuy, but as for Trinity blood I don't know if their not getting them or they sell out really fast, since I've only seen just the box at that was gone pretty quick.

I've been wondering about that too. I ordered the FMP:TSR box and a few hours later I got an e-mail saying it had been discontinued. Luckily I grabbed the last one at Best Buy the next day.

Well, shucks! I can understand TSR being sold out, but for these other titles that most people seem to label as "more Gonzo crap," I expected them to be available for at least a month after they come out.

I made the mistake of waiting for Deep Discount DVD's sale to coincide with the release date of TSR, but they removed the link the day it came out. I saw two of the starter sets at my Best Buy, but one had a really ugly dent/crease on the top corner, and I was hoping the other would still be around later after further research. They're both gone now...

If they really are sold out everywhere, then I'm screwed. I did, however, find a link for it at DVD Pacific. The availability status said "on order." I placed an order just in case. But if it figures that they're out as well, then I guess I'll just have to wait for a box set in another year or so. And if it's a thinpack, I ain't buying it...

Anime Nation, Deep Discount DVD, DVD Planet, and most recently DVD Pacific. I do a majority of my shopping online, but occasionally get clearanced anime from Best Buy.

Oh well, guess I should start preordering and trying to find that TB Vol.2...

The ones that say "it's more Gonzo crap" protest too much I think.

If you need to get a hold of the FMP:TSR box, Robert's Anime Corner store still has it listed and they're pretty darn reliable. Not to mention a site sponser. (Link on left with blinking eyed girl.)

I buy a lot from them and probably spend a little more than I actually have to, but I've yet to find a group I felt more comfortable dealing with. They usually ship in oversized boxes, so it's very rare that anything arrives dented or damaged.

Funimation should really think about increasing the size of the production run with their LE's. They seem to sell faster and faster each year. People are going to start hording them to sell on eBay. (Actually, they probably are already. Evil or Very Mad )

Preordering is probabally the culprit, that's how I got my TSR LE. I guess I should consider myself among the lucky few then, didn't know they were rare. Anyhow aside from the advantage of the boxes that came with the first volumes of my Basilisk and Speed Grapher LEs, the other ones didn't seem worth putting up the extra cash for a flimsier packaged product. So I've just been buying the regular versions for the other volumes.

There was a thread at AoD regarding the extremely limited nature of FUNI's limited edition items.

Incidentally, I've seen plenty of FMP:TSR and Moonphase boxes in my local Best Buys despite them apparently selling out pretty quickly in various online stores.

However, when I bought Speed Grapher vol. 4 LE, they only had three copies, even though that was only the first or second day they had been on the shelf. But I suspect this may be Best Buy ordering fewer rather than FUNI producing less.

That aside, pre-ordering way ahead is probably the best bet for these things.

I've had no problems getting my Funi LE from TRSI. The fourth Speed Grapher disc even arrived a bit early. Why is the Basilisk slipcase image the same as on the foldout? Granted the slipcase art on Trinity Blood can be found inside the fold out, but at least it isn't right there under the same image on the slipcase. I prefer how the Speed Grapher slipcase image isn't used again in the foldout or book and maximizes the amount of artwork in the DVD. I didn't think that FMP TSR was going to have a LE, and Negima just scares me. I love the giant Samurai 7 boxes, but don't even have the space for standard cases although I've made a bit of room for the Digipaks and tins. *i also like the unlaminated feel of the Samurai 7 and Speed Grapher boxes compared to the Basislisk and Trinity slipcases.

Definitely preorder these. I already ordered Speed Grapher 5, Trinity Blood 4, and Basilisk 4, as well as the standard editions of Black Cat 2, Solty Rei, Rumbling Hearts, and Moon Phase 3 during the last TRSI Funimation sale. I believe this LE experiment proves that people do care about the DVD packaging, and Funimation has frequently provided nice books with FMA, Burst Angel, Sam 7, and dual sided artwork in most of their other titles. Why doesn't Moon Phase have a dual sided cover, especially since it has a transparent case? The book and postcards sure are nice, especially for the price. Funimation sure has spoiled me to the point that I feel like something is missing when I open a Bandai title.

Do the non LE come with the books?

Amazon still seems to have the Basilisk box in the main store and in secondary sellers, so I should be able to pick that up, at least. The funny thing about the TSR box is that it's not even that great a box, so it's probably the series' popularity that's driving the sales. Sure, it's shiny, but it's not exactly solid or high-quality, compared to ADV's boxes for Fumoffu and especially the first season. Good thing I pre-ordered it during the Funimation sale at TRSI at the end of October.

Boy, I'll have to go search out the Samurai 7 Vol. 7 + Box--the fansubs are sitting around unwatched on the HD, and it seems like a series that I'll want to buy the real thing for at some point. Most of the time, though, I don't care about the LEs if it's not the artbox volume--I've been getting the Negima ones, and I've got Basilisk 2-4 on hand or on order, but I don't think I'll go for the Samurai 7 LEs, as long as I can get that artbox.

Well, there is a reason they're called LIMITED Edition. Most of the ones I've been paying attention to are discontinued about a month after their release, but are generally available for preorder 3 months or so ahead of time (online, at least).
