Also, Al Feldstein who popularized Mad Magazine just died too.

It's funny that people are looking at that Mario movie in a sentimental light, now. It's like the video game equivalent of that Dolph Lundgren He-Man movie.

It's a terrible movie for sure, but in its own way it is a lot of fun. It kind of throws Mario into an almost Brazil like world but with more scenery chewing and being even less subtle.

Indeed it was a fun film i mean were talking about Mario how did people think a film turn out lol the game it self is silly and the tv show was just as silly i felt Bob Hoskin made a good live action Mario

The Super Mario Bros. movie has a cult fanbase, of which I'm a part of, that see it as a criminally misunderstood movie (you can look up the Super Mario Brothers Movie Archives website if you don't want to take my word for it). Yes there were production troubles that made the actors miserable and it wasn't as literally true to the games as fans wanted it to be (and that's the only reason it's carried the stigma of "worst video game movie ever" even though it was historically the first ever made and there have been several truly bad video game movies since), but in the end it's still a fun sci-fi action comedy that's more creative and imaginative than people give it credit for. There's already finally a Blu-ray release being planned in the UK, which many fans are hoping will be region-free, but we'll see (my player's region-free).

My defense out of the way, the prolific and talented Bob Hoskins will be missed.

Without a doubt, the Super Mario live-action film is an unbearable train wreck, and no amount of eulogizing Hoskins will change that. Guys, just because you kind of sorta liked it when you were six doesn't mean it holds up to the test of time, nor does it erase from being a stain on Bob's career.

Plus it's just a disservice to keep bringing it up in relation to what talent the man really had. You want to see what acting Robert was capable of? Go watch The Long, Good Friday. That's the Bob Hoskins I'll remember.
