Between Naruto and Fruits Basket there wasn't much room for anyone else, LOL
Add up all the Naruto volumes that sold and I'm pretty sure that franchise did better than Fullmetal. td99 |

And why didn't the graphic novel that was ranked 18th win? God! Who doesn't wanna' go out and buy THE BOOK OF BUNNY SUICIDES? I should've bought that on Borders.com yesterday instead of Death Note vol. 7 and Rurouni Kenshin vol. 17 and the V for Vendetta graphic novel. But I bet none of those Bunnies know how to kill themselves like a man.
Edit: I removed the link due to the fact that it took people's attention away from the topic about the success of the FMA manga. Last edited by SharinganEyes92 on Wed Aug 30, 2006 12:47 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I really don't find that page funny, infact I find it extremely offensive. I am a person who likes to joke around and have a good time but there are certain issues that are not to be joke around with. That said I am glad FMA (I really need to get into the Manga) was number one, VIZ is running all the way to the bank with this show. I bet Naruto going to be #1 foor 2006, that or fruit basket. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

Without even looking at this, I'm going to say it is Maddox. I'm glad that things such as Naruto and FMA do well for Viz, it allows them to release the books I really look forward to, such as Monster, The Drifting Classroom, Golgo 13, and the like. |

Bart Simpson's Guide to Life still makes the top 100 list?
That's impressive for a book that's around 15 years old. |

I'm sure when the anime hits the states this fall, the manga ranking will go up. |

Well, I'm sorry that I can't entertain everyone. Excuse me fo trying to provide a little comic relief. Sometimes humor just goes unappreciated. If I offended anyone other than Deltakiral, then sorry. |

Wow, I guess even a series listed five times on an article entitled the "TOP 100 SELLING COMICS & GRAPHIC NOVELS: 2005" has absolutely no relevance to popularity whatsoever. Brilliant induction. |

manga even ending up top 100 book sales is pretty big deal since Japanese anime/manga still isn't considered mainstream entertainment....
i still don't see how Fullmetal Alchemist topped Fruits Basket when it consistently tops at USA Today booksale list....still fine reading, though...can't wait to read the novels of FMA.... and i would like to add Naruto just doesn't appeal to me...something about the whole series, anime and manga, just irks the hell out of me.... |

I'm accessing the forums from a public library, and this is the message I get when I click on that page you linked to:
I don't think the librarians found it very funny either. |

This was the 2005 list, not the 2006 list. I expect that Furuba will have a much stronger place for the 2006 than the 2005 one. What is interesting is that while the FMA anime has apparently done well, the FMA manga, while clearly getting off to a big bang, seems to have really fallen off. |

It is because american kids (probably adults too) don't read. But it's most likely because people who watch the anime think they are just going to get the same story if the read the manga so they see no reason to. |

I agree, there is a lot of news with Naruto being on fillers and many folks want to get the real story so they turn to the manga. That said the Anime for FMA is really good, so most people probably don't know that there is a different story for the manga. Hell I didn't know for quite some time as well, and I am huge fan of the series. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

This is the only reason I actually picked it up, because I heard it was different. Of course you can't really tell from the first volume since it starts off pretty much the same when your flipping through the pages. Minor varitations which msot casual fans may not catch. Maybe if VIZ put out an ad on adult swim that said the story was different may get more people buying this series. |
