I keep digging this dual release strategy from Aniplex USA: pricey BD's for the hardcore fans and cheaper DVD's for the more money conscious. I wish for this model to be used in all their future releases.

90 bucks.... for one movie.

90 bucks... for ONE. MOVIE.

*sigh* Just when I think you can't sink any lower, Aniplex, as usual, you go out of your way to prove me wrong. Confused

Whereas I wish they'd use the PMMM release model: barebones DVD, barebones BD and super-expensive LE version.

I'd potentially like to own the Blue Exorcist movie on BD but not at the LE price.

This. This is the same reason I haven't bought any NIS titles, I only need a LE version for a show that I REALLY like, and though I did like this movie I don't like it enough to need all the bells and whistles. They did call it a Limited Edition though, so maybe a barebones release will follow down the road? If that goes down to $50 like the Kenshin movies, that wouldn't be bad.

Sadly this movie is in no way worth $90. I'm not sure it's even worth $40. It was barely worth the price of the ticket...

Aniplex prices are what they are but their models are more like super expensive and expensive. I don't see anything cheap about a $40 bare bones DVD release for a movie. Unless you mean cheap for Aniplex.

Yeah, I agree entirely with this. Just like how so many people think the Vividred and Oreshura are "cheap" despite the fact that they're barebones DVDs with subtitles only. There's nothing "cheap" about $60, especially when every other company is putting out the exact same thing for literally half price (and FUNi is even doing theirs in a combo pack).

$40 is about the price of a Criterion Collection DVD, and you know how jam-packed with extra stuff those are. Maybe if this was the price for the bluray, it'd be slightly more justified, but for just a DVD in plain packaging with no bells and whistles, 40 bucks is just ridiculous. Confused

I actually think the PMMM model would be ideal, but AoA does not very interested as they have not repeated this model.

Aniplex is kind of using the Madoka model right now, just in a simpler format. $120 for the bare-bones BD would make neither casual fans nor publishers paranoid of reverse-importation happy, anyway. Although I would like to see more DVD/BD combos in the limited editions, I'm fine with this pricing structure for the AAA titles (and this goes for Kadokawa, Bandai Visual, etc. as well).

Sweet. I was beginning to wonder when they would annouce it. I'm fine with Aniplex prices anyway (but I also really love this series) so I'll be getting the limited edition with all the shiny bells and whistles.

This, and I don't care for Aniplex's attempts to create artificial categories of BD for hardcore collector and DVD for everyone else. I'm fine paying expensive prices, but not for DVDs especially when we live in the time of HD. I didn't buy a BD player and Plasma to watch DVDs. But, oh well as Maidenoftheredhand said they are what they are.

People are complaining about this when it's cheaper than Japan and cheaper than it used to be . . . I see some complaining about sets that are like $30-40 for 4 episode DVDs . . . which is what was happening in 2004.

I saw this movie in the theater. It was OK, but it was more fun to see it with a large audience. I'd be more content with more of those screenings happening (for films like One Piece Strong World, the Tiger & Bunny movie, the Anohana movie, the Fairy Tail movie), which is why I'll probably see the 3rd Madoka movie in the theater.

Actually, the retail price for this is about $5 more than the Japanese Limited Edition

Well, usually. I'm used to seeing like $70 USD (the equivalent of) for roughly 2 episodes.

Welcome to the real price of anime, folks. Dunno about the movie but come Christmas I think I'm going to grab one of those awesome looking Blu-ray boxes Aniplex USA made for the N. American release of the TV series. I've just been so busy with being a new dad to watch stuff lately. Still haven't had time to watch my newly acquired DOG DAYS' discs...Sad
