Having read the first Book Girl (Bungaku Shoujo) light novel I kinda want to see this. No Longer Human is related to a person's death in that story and referenced and quoted regularly so I'd kinda like to see what all of the fuss is about. I doubt I'll actually read the novel seeing how in Book Girl it's pointed out that people who read the book often become depressed and even suicidal (we are talking about a story by a writer who attempted suicide once, attempted double suicide twice, and finally succeeded in a double suicide days before his 39th birthday). Not really something I need myself. Within the Book Girl light novel Toko points out that people should read Dazai's other, more positive and upbeat stories with No Longer Human to better understand the other said of Dazai in order to avoid falling into its trap.

Funnily enough, I only watched the first 4 episodes of the TV series when it first aired. I liked it but it was so depressing I didn't feel like watching the other 8.

First four episodes of Aoi Bungaku is the whole No Longer Human story. From there you get another 2 or 3 arcs, which were a bit less depressing... perhaps except for one, though it'll be too late when you realize it.

The No Longer Human arc is probably the best arc out of the Aoi Bungaku series. It's not a surprise for me to see it get praises. The other arcs aren't as depressing but they're also twisted.

Oh, go and read it. It's so short I finished it in one sitting. There's some pretty large differences between the original book and anime adaptations, too. Made me ponder without how far an adaptation should stray from its source. |

Does ANN have an official link to Tokyo Godfathers winning the 2004 edition? The FFF website may be pretty, but it is not practical. Their 2004 archive has the movie participating in the event, but the page of the award has nothing. I could only find a couple unofficial links here and there. Link 1. Link 2.
Maybe someone who speaks Italian could help? |
