Should I watch X the movie first or the series?

I hear the movie sucks if you've seen the series first, and I've heard others say the series rocks if you watch it after the movie.
However, I have a friend who likes the movie over the series, and he saw the movie first. Personally, I've only seen the series and loved it anyway. Just know that the series is a retelling of the movie and goes into much more depth, since 24 episodes is obviously much longer than 90-120 minutes. |

I would go series and just skip the movie or if you really must watch it, see it after. The fights in the movie are cool, but with time restrictions there's no character development time.

Alrite thanks...And I didn't really want to make a new topic so I'll ask it in here...I know they are two different things, but what series would you reccomend is better Samurai Champloo or Cowboy Bebop. I will eventually get both, but I'm on a budget right now and can only get one.

The movie is really cool, but there's no substance. Well, from the perspective of someone who's followed the manga closely I guess there is, but the movie came out long before the series so a lot of people saw it first, myself included. It's a bit like Advent Children, in a way, except it was made a while ago (1990s-ish) so it's kind of outdated. I think it's still good for an older anime movie, though.
And I like Cowboy Bebop more than Samurai Champloo. It's also an older show (1990sish again) but it's a classic. |

One more comment on X;
I would go with the TV series first, but skip "Episode 0" if you can. The reason I say skip the movie and Episode 0 because they sum up what the series is about. It destroys all the surprises and matchups between the Dragons. But you might want to watch both the movie and the series if you can. I don't want to give away anything but in the end you'll understand why I said to watch both if you watch them. And you can always go to your first post and edit the subject if you want to change the name of this topic... atleast I think that's how it works. Cowboy Bebop Vs Samurai Champloo... that's a tough one since these are two of my most favorite anime. I say that if you feel like Gun and Dogfights, not litereally "dogs" but airplanes go with Cowboy Bebop, but if you feel like Swordfighting, go with Champloo. |

I feel that Cowboy Bebop is a true classic, and the series of events there was done near perfectly. Champloo somewhat followed the same path, but the stories aren't as captivating. I watched Champloo without knowing that it was done by the same person as Bebop, so my thoughts towards it wasn't affected by this. The stories of Faye, Jet and Spike was more interesting than Fuu, Jin, and Mugen. Also, Champloo seemed to have too many random things, and the things that did connect to the characters' pasts don't really match together very well. In the end, Samurai Champloo gave me much less than what Cowboy Bebop did, so I'd definitely recommend Bebop over Champloo. |

The X movie was basically Advent Children on a smaller scale. It was a bunch of more of less random and gratuitous events loosely strung together by a thin representation of plot, all for the sake of giving rabid fans of the X manga something to squeal about. If you haven't read a good bit of the manga, I'd say skip it, otherwise it's likely to have little real appeal unless you're just in it to see pretty things get graphically hacked up.
As for the TV series, personally I would consider it the single best rendition of the X story to date. It's well paced, sufficiently develops the entire cast, does the source material justice, doesn't overstay its welcome, provides some great action, and actually concludes (and concludes in a satisfactory way, at that). The movie, as stated, is just 100 minutes of fanservice, and the manga begins to drag after about a dozen volumes, all without any sense of conclusion (it's like the story's aimlessly wandering around in circles WANTING to end, but being denied that right by CLAMP being too wrapped up in starting new titles). So all in all, I'd say watch the TV series, then some combination of the manga and movie after that. And yes, try to avoid watching the "Episode 0: An Omen" short that comes on the first DVD. It's a wee too spoilerific for its own good. |

If you are thinking about purchasing the tv series you might want to wait. Geneon is rereleasing the entire series with a 5.1 Dolby Digital remix. Even if you are not interested in buying the new remaster you might be able to find the original versions for cheaper.

I think you hit it on the X (hehe) with that, I really enjoy X I think personally the job done to develop so many characters was amazing. Also the music is really good, the ending is an ending as Nagisa states. But more importantly, you understand why characters feel a certain way, unlike the movie where everyone just runs around killing one another for no apparent reason. If all you want is to see people get all bloody watch the movie, if you want to see a genuine action series watch the TV show. Also much like Randall Miyashiro state wait for the remix edition that will be at a great price and gives the all important 5.1 (yummy!). Till next time, Delta Kiral |

I saw both, the series first, the movie later.
I strongly recommend you see the series first, since spoiler[the movie is practically a summary of the series... And I personally prefer Suzumura Kenichi's voice to Seki Tomokazu's as Kamui n___n)] |

I saw the set, but I'm very curious; what needs remastered with this series? Aside from the 5.1 audio track, the video can't be improved that much, can it? I mean, the DVDs are already very striking visually... That 5.1 is tempting though. Especially with the score... If I didn't own it, I would wait for the remasters of the series. |

I saw the movie first as well as Tokyo Babylon and they made me never want to watch any other incarnation from the X universe or anything else from Clamp for that matter. Luckily I was convinced to check out the X TV series which is immesurably better than the rushed and character development devoid film. Aside from Chobits and Tsubasa Chronicle I still don't watch much Clamp stuff though.

I read somewhere, I forgot where but most than likely wikipedia, that the endings of X TV series and Movie are the directors take on the ending because the manga is not complete yet... is this true?
