You know, I had JUST been looking at that ParaPara Mix in the store the other day and wondering if it was any good. Guess I know what I'm getting when I head out to take advantage of the local MediaPlay's going out of business sale tomorrow.

I heard Yoko Ishida perfrorm this year at Anime Weekend Atlanta. It was more "fun" than anything else. Definitely listenable but not something I would buy.

Wow, I didn't know those ParaParamix cds were out in the US. My friend has some of the Japanese versions. Are the US ones the same? I really enjoy these cds.

DDR doesn't get the cool songs >_>; it goes: IIDX -> Pop'n -> PPP -> KM -> GFDM -> DDR. I'm pretty sure Pop'n gets a lot of anime themes; not so sure about PPP. And don't give them any funny ideas about a 13 minute song; 14k [Another] is hard enough around 2 minutes.

I liked the music from both Love Hina and Azumanga Daioh. But then again, I'm sort of a music heathen...

*snickers* This is true. And this is why the DDR fans made things like Stepmania. IIDX gets all the really cool stuff, and Pop'n gets the fun random stuff. And when it does make the transition to DDR, more often than not the steps just aren't worthy. I mean, what's with that long freeze in V during that sequence of runs that has *so* much potential for fun frantically running around the pad? *shakes head* In any case, those ParaPara CDs look interesting. I'd been wondering if the songs were remixes or not- seeing as I already have files of the originals of most (hey, don't look at me like that, I do buy more than I download) remixes are more interesting to me, anyway. |

The second Love HIna Song Best CD is a lot better than the first. I've had the second one for over two years; and I think the quality of the music was better (whereas a couple on the first Song Best made me want to rip my ears off).

The Dmitri Shostakovich symphonies can put the hair on your entire body on end. Just queue them up and go on the emotional roller coaster.

I blame Tenchi Muyo for letting voice actresses who can't sing do songs. Listening to Yumi Takada sing is too much, although I do appreciate her comedic acting.

IIDX is the truncated version of Beatmania IIDX. KM is Keyboard Mania, GFDM is for Guitar Freaks/Drum Mania, respectively. I didn't feel like spending an extra 2 minutes to find FAQs on those.

IIDX refers to Beatmania IIDX, a "DJ sim" music game in which a song plays, and you have to hit the keys and turn the turntable as indicated by the marks scrolling on the screen in time to the music. IIDX has 7 keys, the originaly Beatmania has 5. Pop'n Music is similar to IIDX, except instead of keys and a turntable it's a set of 9 colorful bubbly buttons that you press. Despite looking very kiddy-ish it's quite challenging. Also can be played on a competative 2-player mode where each player plays with 3 buttons, with a 4th used to "battle" when you've filled a meter far enough. Para Para Paradise (PPP) is a one-player game in which you do Para Para moves. Seriously. The song plays, and arrows scroll up the screen in patterns and you wave your arms around to trigger them. If you're good you actually do this in a way that somewhat resembles Para Para dancing. Keyboard Mania (KM) is again like the above, but played with a keyboard (like a piano keyboard). Music sim, you hit the right keys/notes when the game tells you to, etc. Guitar Freaks and Drum Mania (GFDM) are like Keyboard Mania, but featuring guitar and drums. Normally single player games, they can be combined with each other for two-player and you can pretend you and your friend are playing in your own little band or something. DDR you already know, there's few people who don't. Not mentioned is Dance ManiaX, which is something like a cross between ParaPara and DDR- you use your arms like the former, but it's more rhythm based like the latter. Basically there's two sensors that you wave your hands over and above according to the marks scrolling on the screen. And thus ends this brief summary of Bemani. Edit: I just realized I never defined Bemani, dur. Basically, "Bemani" is short for "Beat Mania", but it refers to basically Konami's entire line of music-themed games. |

Wow it's been a long while since I've read one of these. This one was especially entertaining to read.
