Might want to try going to the Chobits section of the Encyclopedia first. There's a rating system in use there represented by the colored bars that will give you the best idea of how people here rate it.

As Keonyn said, if you simply want a number rating, then the User Rating feature in the Encyclopedia should work well enough. If you want people to post here though, then It'd be a better idea to ask people to write out their opinions of the show rather than simply give a number. Polling for number scores kinda violates the forum rules about listing, whereas asking people to describe their impressions would work more towards the purposes of a discussion forum by having people actively discussing what specifically they liked and disliked about the show.

First off let me tell you the majority of the anime I watch is violent, Gungrave, Gantz, Elfen Lied, and so on but Chobits is a rare non action title that made my shelf.
I would give it a 9, and thats only because I had to buy volume seven in order to completely understand the ending, and I felt it left too many loose ends. The ¨bailey box¨ sets made the series easier to purchase due to their cheap prize. I bought and watched the first half and enjoyed it so much that after I finished the first three volumes, I went and purchased the second half. I´m not a big fan of ¨anime comedy¨ because I just don´t find it funny but Chobits had me laughing, by the way I´m 18 if that makes a difference. I hope you pick it up and I don´t really purchase an anime I´m unsure of until I ask people so I hope this helped. |

Chobits... I wasn't sure that I liked it after the first few episodes. It was cute and funny, but it seemed like just a bunch of fan service. Something kept me watching, though, (maybe it was the fact that I had already spent money on it... lol) and a deeper, more mysterious plot presented itself. The animation and music is also very well-done, in my humble opinion. I think it's worth watching. (Um... so I'd give it an 8?)

I don't know how the anime goes, but the manga I would rate a six. I really like things like this, Love Hina and what not. This one didn't really seem like humor to me. It was more emotional problematic obsticals that the character had to deal with. I loved the story till the ending. The ending just made me really mad at the series. I don't care if its not a fairy tale ending but when you end it like that driving home those points like that. That just ended it for me, ironic no?

I really enjoy anime comedies as a genre and Chobits was certainly no exception. As already mentioned, there have been some complaints about the level of fan service and sexual innuendo in this series and not everyone is going to be able to get past it. Chi is very cute and even sexy, but the situations she gets into can be more than a little creepy sometimes, especially with her young looks and universal naiveté. The premise that she's just an android softens the perversion angel a bit, but it might still be more than some people are able to stomach. Even with all the fan service and innuendo, this series was still very enjoyable to me and I would highly recommend it to any mature anime fan that's already familiar with some of the more risqué anime themes. For those who are relatively new to mature anime themes, however, this series might be a little shocking or even disturbing to Western tastes.
Edited to add: Somehow I managed to say quite a bit without giving you any sort of rating, which I think is what you were going for. I guess I would give this series an 8 for those who enjoy cute anime comedies with a lot of fluff and who don't worry too much about the ending or the fan service. For anime fans that normally steer clear of frilly comedies in favor of more serious titles, I would probably give this series a 4 or less. There's just not enough here for people who need a strong plot and solid ending. It's been quite a while since I watched this series, but now that I think about it, some episodes were indeed rather silly and pointless. Chobits could have been improved further if they condensed some of it and polished the ending a bit more. Last edited by daxomni on Mon Nov 21, 2005 3:20 pm; edited 1 time in total |

It really depends on your tolerance for cute filler. And whether you have expectations from reading the manga.
I was actually very disappointed with the Chobits anime (which made sense when I found out it was made before the manga was finished, which I don't think is EVER a good idea, except maybe in cases where the manga likely will never be finished). It was just too cute and fluffy for me (and I am a shoujo fan so I usually like my fluff). After they spent an entire episode on Chi buying panties, I just gave up on it. Their handling of the storyline with the weird creepy book was done fairly well, but it was just too much pointless things. I think the main thing that bothered me was that in the manga I see Hideki as being the main focus. In the anime, it was Chi. Chi has no personality, or at least not much. And thus focusing on her was really not the best move, as far as I see it. So yeah, this is not an anime I personally would recommend since I definitely did not enjoy it enough to actually watch it the entire way through. |

I never actualy finished the series, i guess because my friend told me it was like Love Hina kind of funny so i set my standards too high. I never really got the feel for it so i'd rate what i saw 6 out of 10.
