I found this article on the Tokyopop page today,
THE Jim Henson Company, TOKYOPOP, and Neil Gaiman Set to Bring MirrorMask and Classic Fantasy Titles to Manga The MirrorMask prequel will tell the story of the princess' escape from the Dark Palace and how she came to acquire the mirror mask. TOKYOPOP also plans to release a sequel manga to Labyrinth, which after hitting the big screen in 1986 remained a fan favorite over the years and also served as an inspiration for MirrorMask. Its manga version will follow a 13-year-old Toby as he journeys back to the labyrinth to assume his role as the heir to the Goblin Kingdom. Manga writer Jake Forbes will write this series. The final title will be a prequel to 1982's The Dark Crystal, the classic tale of good versus evil that broke ground as the first fully animatronic feature. Henson also recently announced that it is in preproduction on a theatrical film sequel to this cult classic. This isn't the full article, but how exciting! Combining two of my favorite things, Manga and The Henson Company! |

HELLS YEAH, BOWIE-JARETH = SMEX. I'm done. Seriously, I'm not expecting anything truly amazing from this line of comics, but....c'mon. The Bowster in manga format. It's hot. And on a side note, I really wanted to see MirrorMask, but it wasn't playing anywhere nearby. >_>; |

GAIMAN!
Did anyone see the movie? I wanted to see it but no theater near me had it. (For those who can't understand my Gaiman obsesion, he wrote the SANDMAN comics) |

I saw Mirrormask. I thought it was very good; visually inspired (and made on a budget of under five million dollars if I remember correctly), thematically coherent in spite of what some critics seemed to think, and a family film that did not aim for the lowest common demoninator.
I would be curious but very sceptical of these manga spin offs, in large part because those three films bare such a strong imprint of individual artists; Brian Froud in the case of The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, and Dave McKean for Mirrormask. Generic manga-esque artwork would be hugely disappointing to me. |

In the report it said that the Jim Henson company had approched a company about doing a Manga, and Gaiman had asked to join in, that's as much as I need to hear!
But I agree having the origional artists as a basis/included in production would be amazing! |
