Interesting. Too bad I don't really like Edward Elric.

I watched FullMetal Fantasy when he first showed it at ACen. I really enjoyed it, it was quite good.

I saw it too at Metrocon in FL. I also met Vic and got his autograph. He really is quite nice.

Cool; I've been wondering what happened to Sunday Spotlight. I did like the longer, more in depth interview.

Vic Mignogna butchers Edward Elric. Without a doubt the worst voice in the FMA dub.
Seems like a nice enough guy, though. '-'

I haven't seen the fan video, but after seeing that color picture of Vic, is it just me or does he kinda look as if he could be an older version of Ed? It's just that the first question got that mental image in my mind...
I already knew that most voice actors record separately, but I never really thought about having a one-sided dramatic or touching conversation. Just thinking about it, especially certain scenes from Fullmetal Alchemist, seems weird and extremely hard. It makes me appreciate their work even more now.
Vic kept saying that he just stumbled into the role of Ed and he doesn't know where he could go from there after such a great character/series, and that's just amazing to me. Partly because it seemingly fell into his lap like that and also since he apparently holds the series in high regard, which I can't complain with his opinion with that. I also find it kinda amusing that he wants some part in Naruto.
And I liked how Vic explained Ed's personality/behavior throughout the interview, but especially in the last question. It certainly gave me a new point of view and better understanding of Ed. Now that it's all been laid out for me, it does make good, logicial sense and I wonder why I didn't think of it that way myself.
So, good questions asked, I learned a few things, and I think it was a great interview. Good work!

I happen to hold the exact opposite opinion of his potrayl of Ed.
What, specifically, do you find fault with in his performance?

If he is going to be there then I am sure they will show it.
Make sure you see FullMetal Fantasy. I saw it at Sogencon and laughed myself silly. You will regrate it if you miss it.
BTW: It is only 15 mins long, so it won't take to much time out of your schedual.

He makes Edward sound too whiny and screechy for him most of the time. And his voice strains to a ridiculous level during emotional scenes, making any emotion (such as anger or sadness) seem unnatural and painful to hear. He can NOT do emotional scenes at all, and since FMA is full of them, it makes him a pretty poor Edward Elric.
Hey, maybe I'm just so used to Romi Paku, that even after all this time Vic sounds unnatural as Ed. Japanese Edward Elric has a certain quality of a regretful, hurt child, while English Edward Elric just seems cynical and sarcastic. In the Japanese version, it's easy to tell that side of Ed is just a front, simply through the voice. English Ed doesn't have a real heart. He doesn't sound regretful or remorseful. He just sounds like a spoiled kid who's being forced to do something he doesn't like.

Hmm, it's funny you can pick up on those subtleties. You must speak Japanese. I don't, and I find it much easier to connect emotionally with a character whose language I understand. So while the Japanese and English VA's are good, I prefer the English.

Not to mention that the Japanese VA for Ed nearly sounded like every angsty bishounen I heard (which led to me to not care about Fullmetal Alchemist in the first place).

Or he understands that emotional expression transcends the language barrier...

I dunno. While I can understand familiarity and connecting, I disagree with limitings one own emotional experiences to that.
I also prefer the Japanese performance for some of the same reasons penguin mentioned. Though I speak a limited amount of Japanese myself, I can tell there is more depth in those preformances. I don't think Vic has done a bad job with Ed, but I do think that Vic sounds too old to properly portray Ed, and that makes it difficult for me to enjoy.
