Man, I wish I could go to that. I'm a huge Jamie Lee fan, and getting to see her in person (I missed her appearance at Horror Hound...) AND see Poppy Hill would be AWESOME.

That's because a name like Jamie Lee Curtis will sell more tickets than Crispy Fryman. Your argument sounds like this: "Why are they using big name Hollywood stars? Why aren't they using nobodies!?" It's not like these Hollywood actors can't act. Perhaps they're not as attuned to voice acting as people who only do that and stage plays, but I fail to see why you or anyone else is so upset over this. Is it about money? Yeah, probably, that's why Hollywood exists, and has existed for the last 90 years. I personally believe that using big names is the best thing we can do, it raises the status of anime and can allow more proliferation among the mainstream. Get more A-listers in there, I want some Brad Pitt in my anime. Morgan Freeman? Hells yeah.

Besides, it's not like all English dubs for normally distributed anime are the mark of perfection either. If you want something to be 100% accurate, watch it in Japanese, raw. Otherwise, you'll always be watching someone else's interpretation of the dialog.

I love how this proves my point. Even though Disney aren't behind the dub, they still didn't use professional English dubbers and instead used Hollywood celebrities. Sigh.

I dislike the excessive use of celebrity voice actors in Western animated movies (I'd love to hear more actual VAs) but the Japanese version of most Ghibli movies uses on-camera actors as well (some of Miyazaki's older stuff had actual voice actors like Chika Sakamoto, Noriko Hidaka and Minami Takayama). So it's not like it's really a language difference in using bigger names. I notice the late Kon and Shinkai tend to use actual voice actors, although Hosoda prefers to use on-camera actors. Shame, cause he probably worked with some really talented ones when doing Digimon and One Piece.

(On the actual subject of this post . . .)
I'm intrigued it's Curtis who's appearing. There's one scene in the movie (saw it last week) where she has a lot of dialogue, but she's not in much of the movie outside that scene or two. I assume she probably recorded her part in a day.
