is this real? 1337 is kind of a ....funny number.

Also, funimation if you're watching..

"The suit also notes that users in a BitTorrent "swarm," by the inherent nature of the technology, are simultaneously downloading parts of the file and distributing parts of it to others."

That's not necessarily true. People have the option to turn off uploads completely and still download. You're gonna have to actually prove all 1337 of those people had uploads on.

Pirates will be pirates, literally. Good luck, Funimation with 1337 pirates.

Why not just do what the RIAA does and 'encourage' all the defendants to settle for a good arbitrary 7-10K? That should strike the fear of copyright protection into them, and score a hefty profit.

Also this wouldnt happen if 720p streams were available. Except for the people that REALLY are thieves. Most people I know only watch pirated because streaming quality is terrible on today's monitors.

As much as I want to root for FUNi, I can't help but draw comparisons to the various copyright troll lawsuits out there and how judges are giving them the boot for trying to sue all parties in a single district despite their actual geographic locations.

EDIT:

Somehow, I doubt it.

It's tough to tell on the internet, but I hope you were being sarcastic there. This would be happening if there were 1080p streams available. That's just the way some people are.

Anyways, good luck to Funi with this. I don't see this working, but at least they're letting it be known that they're tired of the theft.

I see this as Funimation trying to prove a point to Japan. They just got over that Fractale business, and have previously been the cause of some leaks. I see this as them trying to show Japan they care, and won't take piracy lightly.

To be perfectly honest I don't pay attention to funi streams for the very reason that they don't offer hd streams.

I agree with this. However, no matter the motive, hopefully they do achieve some sort of positive result.

(And count me in on those that laughed at the 1337 number - really? That's how many are involved? Anime hyper)
