Are you talking about the dub that Streamline put together from the early 90s? If so, Bandai doesn't have it. They reused the Geneon dub for their release of Akira from what I'm looking up. Geneon never picked up the Streamline dub either since they re-dubbed the movie when they first got licensing and distribution rights to it.

Pretty sure you can't get the Streamline dub on DVD, at least not in R1. Pioneer/Geneon and Bandai don't use it. I think Manga Ent did a release with it for the UK, but I'm not certain. You'd have to look up the VHS release if you wanted the Streamline dub, as far as I'm aware.

It looks like Manga Entertainment's Australia branch has DVD and Blu-Ray releases of Akira containing both Geneon and Streamline's dubs after some further digging around I did for info.

If you have a means of playing import discs, it would be you best bet if you want a video release with both options or just so you can hear the Streamline dub.

Via Region 1 DVD or Blu-Ray, there are not.

well damn! I've only heard the first dub; so I didn't want to taint myself with the second if possible Sad Looks like I'll have to get one then.

Well, one noteworthy thing about the Criterion Akira LD releases is that the "Streamline" dub is actually in stereo on all of them. The version on the R4 AU Madman (and R2 UK Manga) DVDs is a port from VHS, and so it is dual mono (the VHS versions being mono). The R2 and R4 are the only available retail DVDs with that dub, though. If you want to hear it in its best form, though, get the LD. Then you can capture the LD audio and add the dub to Region A BDs and R1 DVDs yourself Very Happy

Personally I like both dubs, so there is no "tainting" yourself with the new one, but I do wish that the old dub were better available, and that the DVDs it was on featured true stereo, and that some of the DVDs were NTSC.
