So I was looking at the pricing on Amazon for the upcoming Kids on the Slope Sakamichi no Apollon release from Sentai and noticed something very strange, Section23 was not listed as the 'studio' for the release but rather A.D. Vision! When I searched for any other recent releases in A.D. Vision's name, nearly all of Sentai's and Maiden Japan's upcoming titles came up and once again the company was listed as the 'studio'.

This has been the running joke for a long time. Most everyone still considers Section 23 to be AD Vision...heck, even HMV's search engine considers all Sentai and Maiden stuff to be from "AD Vision".

I wouldn't call it a running joke so much as a statement of fact: ADV's owners sold its assets to themselves(the bit of law allowing this being where Section 23 comes from), so Neo-ADV is really just a reorganization(Funimation's lawsuit pretty much hinges on the court overlooking legal formalities).
That said, ADV proper is dead and simply exists to carry out the licenses and contracts that weren't moved over to the successor companies for whatever reason. There's no reason to bring it back, so I presume Amazon's only listing it that way for search-related reasons. |

ADV never left, they just reorganized the company and changed the name, just like how Geneon Entertainment Used to be Pioneer. |

Pioneer was bought out by Dentsu, who changed the name. ADV only had its assets boughten(by its owners), who then reorganized. There's a pretty big difference between the two.

Okay, but all along I was just going for the "they're similar because they changed their name but their catalog is the same" point, anyway. |

This practice @ Amazon.com is very common. They almost always change it to Section 23 later on. Amazon.com constantly have listing mistakes for anime releases. This is nothing unusual (at least to me).
