The Brony plague is about to cross international waters.
Time to see what kind of "favorite pony" crossovers the Japanese fans will come up with. |

Yaaaaaaaaay!!! MLP is finally crossing the pacific! I hope someone uploads the Japanese episodes onto YouTube. I'd love to see what the voices are like.

That already happens. Just like how we download and fansub shows from there, they do the same with shows from other countries. There are even fans of english voice actors like Tara Strong over there from the 2chan discussions. |

Or it'll end up like Avatar and bomb and get cancelled before even half the episodes air. |

You're not aware of the relatively decent sized crowd over there for this show, are you? LOTS of fancomics coming out of japan surprisingly enough and a pretty amusing 4Koma too. While I'm not a huge fan of the whole 'brony' movement here, I do appreciate the fan content made stateside and most of what I've seen from japan is diabeetus inducing levels of cute. |

Those ponies are fairly moe, so they'd resonate well within some crowds. Fur in general seems to be gaining popularity from the amount of doujinshi that crops up. Of course, this is supposed to be aimed at little Japanese girls, and moe otaku already have several outlets for their cute quotient, which Westerners unfamiliar with anime don't, which is why I suspect it caught on so strong. You don't need MLP if you got K-On.
What were some of the typical reactions? Last edited by walw6pK4Alo on Wed Jan 23, 2013 7:35 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Glad to see I'm not the only one that like to hear western stuff getting dubbed in Japanese. I'm not a dub hater because beside watching anime in English dub, I've seen American cartoon, western video game getting Japanese dub, some of them are hit and some of them are a miss (yes Japan can screw up dubs also when they dub American cartoon and western video game). I'm not going to question the casting, but if they can pull it off, cool. I like ANN to do more report on Japanese VA doing dub of western stuff.
I wonder if some of our anime dub VAs like Yuri Lowenthal or Johnny Yong Bosch have fanbase in Japan because I remember the Japanese audience have listen to English dub of anime and also have praise English dub: Do the Japanese appreciate anime dubbed in English? English VA that received recognition and praise in Japan Last edited by mdo7 on Wed Jan 23, 2013 7:51 pm; edited 1 time in total |

*Meh Haters goona hate* Yep, and maybe after watching it, the kids who view it will grow up and make GOOD ANIME. Something that is getting harder & harder to find these days. Also, I look forward to all the JP exclusive merch that will undoubtedly come. Lord knows at the very least they'll make better plushies for it then the U.S. companies have so far. But yeah, never seen Milky Holmes, so can't judge how good or bad the voices will be, but yeah, Another country to be taken over by pony, this can only lead to good things. The only real down side to this of course, the Doujinshi, oh lord the doujinshi, I get sick just thinking about it. No more Twilight Sparkle Tentacle porn please. |

People say this about everything ("Japan likes X!") so I take it with a grain of salt at this point since it's all baseless. Though for what it's worth a lot of those 'fansubs' and 'fancomics' are western produced and 'reverse translated' in Japan. As in, it's westerners subbing it not Japanese people themselves. You got threads on /mlp/ dedicated to rigging contests and spamming it on Japanese sites it's amusing just how obsessed they are with it. Amusing.. and kind of sad.
As long as they stay in those furry doujin events and out of Comiket that's fine. Furry stuff can have their own events if they want.
None because it wasn't even a blip on the radar there. |

O....kaaaaay?
Ya know what? I didn't see something like this coming, but I really feel like I should've. But the announcment sounds soooo.. weird. I mean, okay. Having brand spanking new Japanese actresses for the parts, that's kind of been a thing in anime, even with dubs believe it or not. But having 4 of the main cast be previously from the same show as main characters? That was a bit weird even for me. And even weirder is that I because I never bothered to watch the show, I just googled for some of the Milky Holmes characters that are voiced by these actresses and the color schemes are mostly, coincidentally similar to the characters these actresses are going to voice in MLP. |

Well, I can honestly say that I hope this is a success (I'd been wanting to hear information on a Japanese dub ever since someone posted fake information that had Rainbow Dash's Japanese VA as Junko Takeuchi [which would've been hilarious, I think], among other stuff), because there are certain moments I really want to see in Japanese ^^ (such as Pinkie's mental breakdown in Party of One, pretty much everything Twilight Sparkle in Lesson Zero, and This Day Aria). 52 episodes, if the episodes are not cut any differently than they are here (and why would they be?), will take the show through seasons one and two in their entirety, which is good (and I sincerely hope the show is successful enough for the Japanese dubbers to order more episodes).
I'm going to assume that you're talking about Twilight Sparkle, since she's the pony most often portrayed as Asian (well, at least when the ponies are humanized in fan stuff). If so, then we won't know until March, it seems (which sucks because she's my favorite pony, but oh well)
Who knows, maybe it was done so that there's already some charisma between the actors; so they already know each other and can play off each other better.
Yeah, I want to see that too. |

Not my dream cast, unfortunately... I'll still keep hoping for Yui Horie as Twilight Sparkle and Kana Hanazawa as Fluttershy.

Aww, I think this is really cool. The Milky Holmes cast has voices as cute as a bunch of buttons, so I just know they'll make the ponies sound super duper sweet! I hope that the show is successful and helps sell some sparkly pink merchandise!!
