I was going to "blind buy" this off of RightStuf since the art seems so chidish and simplistic, I figured it was a "feel good" story. But, since it's really a collection of bittersweet tales, I have to buy it!
Other than Colorful (the film), which sort of counts, I haven't watched/read too many of stories where it starts with the death of a character so this seems like a change I might enjoy. |

I know this is somewhat of an older review but I just received this manga last week from RightStuf (ordered entirely due to Rebecca's comments on the "Super Manga Pals" ANNCast, at 56:30 specifically, back in December) and it was so emotionally compelling that I just had to comment.
I thought maybe this would be really cute, light reading ("cat manga," y'know?) but to be honest, I read it right before going to sleep and I ended up crying so hard that I looked like hell the next morning. Something about seeing the same kind of sad, self-revelatory thoughts ("It might seem like just a bunch of small details... but... my life has been an endless cycle of doing nothing. An endless cycle of self-loathing...") that regularly occur to me being spoken by cute, abstract kittens/cats (a la Chi's Sweet Home) really hits home, like a punch in the gut, every chapter without fail. Having said that, I'm absolutely going to buy vol.2 whenever it comes out. I just have to remember to read it relatively early in the day so that the weeping has abated well before it's time for bed. |
