Is there anyone out there who has given GITS SAC and chance and actually liked it? If so, please reply and say what you like about it.

At first I didn't like GiTS: SAC but I decided to give it another go at Episode 9. While I still don't like it as much as FMA it has it's moments like when spoiler[The Major goes nuts on that armored suit in Episode 21.] The back story involving the Laughing Man also has me interested especially with the Catcher in the Rye references since I'm re-reading the book myself for a class right now.

Yes.
I wouldn't call it one of my favourite shows since I'm primarily a comedy fan, but I far prefer the TV series to the movies, but I find the pacing of the TV series so much less plodding and dense than the movies and even the philosophy in the series is much easier to digest since it's nicely balanced out by action and comic relief. But I have to rent it since we don't get CN in Canada. |

I watch GITS SAC, and I enjoy it. For me, its the entertainment value. Its certainly not as thought provoking as the movie(s), and is more action-oriented/mystery solving than the movie, but I like that type of stuff. I can sit down and watch law and order SVU all day, GITS SAC is sort of like that for me, but in the movie's great setting and with the same characters, etc...

I've been watching it from the beginning and have found it to be quite excellent. If you've seen the first movie then the show will come pretty easy to you when it deals with all the philosophical stuff, but it's definitely got some great action in it as well. I wish the first season could have fleshed out some of the secondary characters a bit better, but the overall character development and storylines have been done very well in my opinion. If you are a fan of crime dramas and you liked the movies then I would definitely suggest you taking the time out to watch it. There are only four more episodes left in its current running before they replace it on the schedule, so you might have to find a copy of the first volume to check it out from the beginning.

I've always liked GitS: SAC. Ever since I saw the first volume it gave off this CSI/high-tech police drama kind of atmposhere, which I find very intersting since I've never really seen that in anime before.
But it does have a lot of dialogue and slow developing themes, so most people who might not be in to that sort of thing or science fiction in general might find it boring. I, however, feel it's somewhat unique and have really enjoyed everything I've seen thus far (in Japanese, mind you, though the dub isn't that bad either  ).

I've given it a chance and like it as well. I like sci-fi type shows, and I like the premise. The show really wasn't doing it for me at first, but after episode 9, I got hooked. Granted, I don't enjoy it as much as the movies (well, the first one anyway), but I still love it. (kinda pissed how I missed last week's episode).

Kenji Kamiyama's incorporation of J.D. Salinger's classic novel as a major plot point of the series is the main reason I love Ghost in the Shell. It's very intreging that a Japanese director used a piece of American literature and incorporate it into an exciting and comprehensive form of entertainment. In fact, the quote that surronds the Laughing Man logo - "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes" - can be found in Chapter 25 in Salinger's novel. I bought Catcher in the Rye last February, and althought I'm only read up to the fifth chapter of the book, it's an amazing piece of literature. Along with the Salinger references, the stand-alones reveal excellent insights to the main characters, especially the episodes involving Batou (Eps. 10 and 16). Unlike most anime series that I watched, the stand-alones are never boring and don't drag. The dub is excellent and easy on the ears. Dang, last week was kinda important, you may want to read up on it before seeing the next one. Not to rub it in, but that was one of the best eps to date. As far as the show, I have to say that I love it to pieces. It is IMO one of the best series ever made, far superior to either one of the movies. It had me hooked right from the beginning, and only gets more intriging as the laughing man case gets more complicated. If you weren't grabbed by the first few episodes then you will probably not be interested by later episodes; the tone of the series does not change (which is just fine by me).

To put it bluntly, I loved the show. I think its the most intriguing show that I've seen to date(although I haven't seen very many). First and foremost, the laughing man storyline, with it's incorporation of two of J.D Sallinger's works, is both ambitious and, in the end, well thought out. Second, The world created by the premise of the show is amazingly well developed to the point where it feels entirely authentic. Every subtle detail becomes another thing to ponder and each detail has, in my mind, has significant universal applications. Lastly, the fight, though not as intense as in most other shows, comes in at the right point to keep my attention.

I think its enough to say that SAC is the only series I wait for a release, and buy it on the day. Oddly enough, some of my Japanese contacts mentioned how the original GITS didn't perform as strongly in Japan. I think SAC is very--sorry guys--western in many of its storytelling techniques. I think this makes the story easier for a western audience to digest. Plus Manga do great dubs (I think). I have also seen each episode more than 4 or 5 tims now (see my RPG post) and I still find them enjoyable. I love the way they do their exposition, I love the music (who doesn't), and the animation is great.
Hey'all! What is your favorite character or favorite episode of SAC? For me, my favorite character is.... ...TOGUSA! Why? He's the everyman. The regular joe we can relate to. He is a squishy human with a wife and kid. When he gets an episode, it is always my favorite. Second would be the Tachikomas. I have to admit, those little bugger found a place. I have some friends that despise them and think they ruin the story but they steal episodes they are in. spoiler[ ...and when they sacrifice themselves to save Batou...well. I said in a previous post that no Anime has ever touched me...I stand corrected... ]. As for favorite episodes: The first introduction of the Laughing Man, Interceptor was the first great episode. I also liked Decoy 9, and Ag20. I think my favorite is Barrage, which is the one just before the end. |

I've loved this show from the first episode, it's near perfection in it's blending of action and inteligence. I love the universe, the technology, storylines, characters, even the music is excellent. It's threatening Cowboy Bebop for my number one spot.
I missed all of my line up on both Friday and Saturday as well. I was on a Caribean cruise though so it was a good trade off. I had them recorded but I've got satelite and it was pouring out on both ocasions apparently because I got no signal. Any info on what happened for Gundam SEED would be appreciated as it was the last episode. For GITS and FMA though I can just watch the repeats on Thursday. |
