Wait...
Olivia Benson from Law & Order SVU is seriously VOICING AN ANIME CHARACTER?!?!?!?!
...
Don't get me wrong! I like her. I'm just quite shocked.

Is it wrong if I'm tempted to get this just to hear the voices?
I've read the first of the Earthsea novels, and I should re-read that, along with the rest of the series. I saw a preview of this movie, and it looked like it only barely skims what's going on... I'm dubious, but those actors they got are good. Dang, I'm conflicted.
I suppose I'll just recite the Geek's Prayer until I've seen it.

Yes, it's wrong. If you've read the books, then it'll hurt even more to see the movie than if you hadn't read them. If you really, really plan on seeing the movie, don't re-read the books. Use the ignorance induced by time to save yourself.
Ghibli invented a totally new story that used the same character names. There is no other resemblance. I've said it before, but if you've seen the SciFi production with Kristin Kreuk, this movie is even worse than that one.
