I was wondering if any of you can name a good piano piece or other instrumental music.
I would appreciate your answers thank you.

Hm.. I can think of quite a few instrumental peices that you may like. Yoko Kanno and Yuki Kajiura seem to be the most popular these days.

However, since he's hardly ever mentioned and hasn't actually done too much in the first place, I'd like to suggest the Rurouni Kenshin OSTs by Noriyuki Asakura.

If you've played any of the Tenchu video games, I'm sure you may be a bit more familiar with his style. He brings sort of a Western hemisphere or European flavor to a lot of his instrumental arrangements, in particular an acoustic (Spanish?) guitar, which I feel sounds awesome.

From a lot of his other Kenshin and Tenchu peices I notice he also likes string instruments. If you get a chance check out the first three Kenshin OSTs and at least the first Tenchu one.

I can't say I'm really knowledgable of piano pieces since I've heard many various tunes from all sorts of series. The only composer that comes to mind right now is probably Toshihiko Sahashi. I was listening to the first OST for Angel Links and there were a few tracks that had some nice jazz piano.

I suppose it just depends on your taste for music Razz. If you like rock, I'd say FLCL, Hellsing, or the Trigun soundtracks would be good.

For more of a classical instrumental sound try Escaflowne, .hack//SIGN, or Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-hen (probably my favorite of the three, it's really powerful with the imagery it accompanies in the anime itself).

Other soundtracks I'd recommend (but have yet to categorize or listen to in full) include: Azumanga Daioh, Haibane Renmei, and Last EXILE.

Ugh, there's actually too many to name since I like a lot, but this should suffice for now I hope Anime smile.

Ahh, finally! Very Happy Gotta love you, canza.

Few could compete with Joe Hisaishi with his piano / instrumental scores for Miyazaki's movies (I've been at his live piano concert). All of them are great, but few are "pure piano." Among them, Shiita no Ketsui (Sheeta's Decision) in Laputa is one of the simpliest yet very beautiful piece; great for beginners. If you've been playing piano for some time, try Ashitaka to San, the ED of Mononoke Hime. Those who want some challange can try Kaerazaru Hibi (The Bygone Days) in Porco Rosso (spoiler[the one played in Gina's bar after her song]). I have sheets of all three.

Other than Hisaishi, Taku Iwasaki is another classical-themed anime composer (how could you not mention him, Tony?). In Witch Hunter Robin, whenever the scene is at Harry's bar, the music switch to "Harry's," a lovely and relaxing piece of piano music. On the other side of the spectrum, his "Here and There," an insert music for Now and Then, Here and There, is in F major, but very sorrowful. Taku Iwasaki is an expert composing sad music with major. Check out OSTs of NTHT and two Kenshin OVAs composed by him (To~~~ny~~~).

Another anime with extensive use of piano solo is the recent hype (which, IMHO, is very befitting), Air. When Misuzu appears without special event, the BGM often switchs to Natsukage (Summer's Shadow). This, among many other piano solo BGM in Air, are often slow, relaxing yet a bit sad, just like its story.

I did mention him, sort of Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop. I just didn't want to get specific because it was kind of late and I was a little tired/lazy to delve into his musical arsenal.

But not that I've had some sleepy time, I'll also recommend his R.O.D. albums (both the OAV and TV series). There's not a whole lot of piano, but boy is he good at string arrangements. I've always liked how he's been able to make a piece for any kind of mood, so give his work a try.

If you're familiar with video game music also try some of the Final Fantasy piano albums, I've heard a few tracks and they sound very good.

But if you like Celtic music and are a fan of the video game series itself, I highly recommend Genso Suikoden. Excellent, excellent music from my favorite RPG series. They've got games OSTs, piano collections, vocal collections, Celtic mixed collection, an Asian mix collection, and then some.

If you go to here you can sample several tracks from various video games. Give it a try, I'm sure you may like some of them Very Happy

Well, Yuki Kajura's Noir, .hack, and other soundtracks are excellent. .hack is practically one of the most addicting OSTs I own. I couldn't stop listening to it for months.

I also reccommend Yuriko Nakamura's Karakuri Zoushi Ayatsuri Sakon OSTs. They're quite good, albiet a bit slow.

Naruto has a pretty spunky OST that's great to listen to when excercising.

This is really a coincidence... I decided just yesterday that my favorite song of all time is a quiet piano piece called "Artisan" from Yoko Kanno's Song to Fly album. It lasts less than two minutes, but those two minutes are so relaxing and soothing that they seem to last much, much longer.
Another one of my favorite piano pieces is "Rei I" from the first Neon Genesis Evangelion OST. Its strangely beautiful diminished chords evoke all kinds of feelings in me; I feel weirdly intrigued and terrified at the same time. It's quite a haunting melody.

The opening tune of Najica Blitz Tactics, "Najica" is a pretty good instrumental piece. It's a big band tune all the way, which I can only describe as cool, smooth and powerfull. The rest of the soundtrack is of cocktail lounge sounding fare, but the opening tune made the disk for me.

I would recommend the Someday's Dreamer OST. It has an excellent instrumental variety of songs. It is easy listening and has a variety of styles that includes salsa and other classical styles. All the songs are good. Its probably the best anime soundtrack I own as a whole.

Rurouni Kenshin has some of the best instrumental music out there anywhere. Departure and Fight of the Last Wolves(I think thats what it's called) are flippin' awesome. Also try the Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 themes by Henry Gregson Williams. they're just looong. Oh, the Black Mages with most of their Final Fantasy music, like Force Your Way and Those Who Fight Further.

Lets X out a few which haven't been mentioned,

Destiny-- X soundtrack, the guitar version on vol 2 is even better.
Last Battle and the Dragons of Earth Suite-- X vol 2, both exqiusitely apocolyptic. "Beautiful, yet Sadly Painful Fight"-- heavy on synthaizers, like, a cool snow covered day where you can see you breath.

All the Best,

Nani?

Going outside of Piano-based stuff, I'd recommend if your into quicker beats to try the Wangan Midnight and Ridge Racer Soundtracks as well.

I'd suggest that you try and go for the Ridge Racers Soundtrack instead of past Soundtracks, because Ridge Racer V had a few Spoken Songs (The Theme Song was by the Boom Boom Satellites, and Kohta Takahashi did a few of his songs with lyrics even thought alot of his songs on the RR soundtracks are instrumentals).

People have mentioned Yoko Kano, but not her stuff from Cowboy Bebop! There's a lot of great instrumental tracks like ELM, Tank, Space Lion, 23 Hanashi, Dijurido (movie version) etc... I think the live action concert DVD has piano versions of some of them (not sure).
