Oh...wow....no, I did not like reading that at all....geez. Please pick that back up someday. I mean, seriously, and I think those who have seen the first episode can back me up on this, falling asleep in the heart-wrenching first episode is like "Please try again. Please."
Other than that, I need to check out Salaryman Kintaro.

I'm glad to see some Salaryman Kintaro love here, but for shame on sleeping through the first episode of Cross Game. For shaaaame.

You liked Gravitation but not Descendants of Darkness? That's...kinda bizarre. I've never met anyone who said that before. Care to explain why? Just curious, not judging here.

Wow, falling asleep during Cross Game is not good. It's a really great series loved by sports fans and non-sports fans alike (I would be a non-sports fan). I really urge you to at least give the first two episodes a second shot, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I've never seen a frame of a yaoi anime in my life...but isn't that the plot of every one ever created?

In my opinion Descendants of Darkness was gayer than Gravitation. There were a lot of uncomfortable scenes between the main characters. But I loved the Devil's Trill arc. To that day, that is the only anime to ever give me chills.
I remember seeing the first few episodes of Salaryman Kintaro, but I didn't find out it was licensed until two months ago. Definitely something I have to buy. As cool as those shelves look, it's kind of scary to picture that in my house. I don't think I could ever invite a girl into my room like that, no offense.
How funny that the one day Erin doesn't talk about lolis is the day that no one posts in Shelf Life. That tells you something about ANN.

I don't quite follow you. Gravitation was a love story about a homosexual relationship, whereas Descendants of Darkness was an action/horror show that also included homosexual relationships, even though that wasn't its primary focus.
Unless what you meant by "uncomfortable scenes" referred to the villain of Descendants of Darkness, Dr Muraki. That guy would make ANYONE feel uncomfortable. But then, I'm pretty sure that was the point. *shudders*
The relationship between the two main characters was actually quite sweet, though. I'm not sure why you'd find it uncomfortable, unless homosexual romance wasn't your cuppa to begin with.
...And in that case, Gravitation would almost certainly be "gayer" anyway.

I love those concrete shelves! If my room wasn't on the second floor I'd totally do that.

No, but the porn of any genre is going to include cringe-worthy tropes like that. There are plenty of sweet and rather vanilla yaoi series out there, just like there are with yuri and het. But those are never the ones you hear about, natch. After all, isn't all hentai filled with tentacle rape?

How can I explain this..? There was a lot of guys without shirts moaning and such that just made me uncomfortable. I loved Gravitation simply for the ending. I don't mind homosexual relationships, I'm just not a big fan of heavy, heavy sexual tension between the characters. It's been a while since I've seen DoD (since its first run on Anime Selects On Demand), so some of it could just be my imagination.

Heh-heh-heh, I was just being a smart-ass. I know I'm not amused when somebody makes assumptions about a genre I like without being familiar with it, but I just couldn't resist.

I will! Don't worry, I'm sure it was just sleep deprivation and a really bad day. It is a Shonen Sunday title, so I will give it a try when I'm wide awake.

I've watched all of Gravitation - or wait, I think I missed the last episode - but I think it's kind of damning when I say that I can't remember if I've seen more than one episode of Descendants of Darkness or not. Supernatural investigation agencies really have to work hard to win me over. It seems like I rented DoD once, a long time ago, but maybe it was terribly un-memorable in the first episode. Or maybe I only watched a lot of AMVs of it... it's hard to say. If it's ever streaming or re-released I'm sure I'll end up watching it.

I gotta agree, falling asleep while watching ep.1 of Cross Game? I think you gotta get your soul checked. Or setup your stuff so you can watch it on a TV if that was the problem here. Maybe with other episodes if you find the pacing slow but episode 1? Wow. Even the people who didn't like Cross Game or found the ending to the episode "eye rolling" or "facepalming" watched it till the end. Please for the love of puppies, give it another shot.
And blah, Rental Magica. I found that show to be a bit boring. Plus the Out of order style didn't work for it like it did for Haruhi. I don't know, maybe the DVD release order is better but the show was very forgettable. Not really sold on Kintaro either. Maybe if you liked playing the old NES game Wallstreet Journal. Or get a boner from reading economical and small business articles. Sorry, that was rude. But I probably gotta be in some kind of mood to enjoy a series like that. Although I am watching a series about bacteria and microbes right now so what do I know... Also, granted I've never read the manga, the "filler-ish" feeling people get from part three (not just you Erin, a good number in fact)? I don't really feel that when I watch it. At least not on the level of like DBZ or Naruto or even Inuyasha. The story feels pretty connected to where part 2 left off except for the Excalibur episodes.
Probably one of the few Shelf Life's where I didn't get much out of the reviews. Usually take something way... Oh! And if your running out of series to review, I think it be cool to get some of the S.A.V.E. line stuff reviewed. Even if there's been a Shelf Life about it already. $30 or less is incentive enough but still, it be nice. Still a good read but wah, not a shelf life for me.
