I've always wondered about this title. Thanks for the review!

I thought this one was fairly good for being one of those "manga fans only" gigs. While the plot isn't very clear, its got a lot of atmosphere.

Uhhh...Casey, ADV is still very much alive. The company is still going. they're just now known as Section 23.
As for Darkside Blues well I haven't seen it for 4 years. I do remember the CPM DVD having very poor quality. Is ADV/Section 23 re-release better or about the same in quality

To me, "Darkside Blues" is a title that sounds like a term for something that is emo. I doubt I will watch it because it mentioned the word "fujoshi" in the review. There are people that crave yaoi and yuri and people that don't (I am of the latter).

Darkside for me was one of those titles that I thought sucked the first time I watched it. Upon a second viewing I thought to myself, "you know that was actually kind of cool." It is certainly difficult to follow at times, but overall it is a pretty good anime. The review is fair, though I don't envy the job of reviewing it. If reviewing was my job, this is one of the titles I would hope to never see.

Does anyone have a sound file of the horrible Engrish the hobo dude sings in this anime?

1) This is Casey. She'll mention fujoshi in any review she can because she is one.
2) Actually, there are way more than "people who crave yaoi and yuri" and "people who don't." There are also "people who crave just yaoi," "people who crave just yuri," "people who are okay with either so long as it works in the plot," and "people who are okay with either so long as it works in the plot and isn't sexually graphic [i.e. prefer BL and non-pornographic yuri]." Oh, and there are also "complete homophobes who run whenever they hear the hint of vague homoerotic subtext mentioned in a review."

Darkside Blues was one of those great imcomprehensible titles that you saw as kid that you always felt there was more going on with than was presented - I had no idea there even was a Manga until now, let alone that it was produced by such prodigous talent. The rerelease is unsuprisingly sparse, I suppose, but its affordable for all that.

I've only read the manga; it was a long time ago, but if I recall correctly, it wasn't that good either.

I agree with other sentiments that this title sometimes bears another viewing to appreciate better. On my initial first viewing, I skipped on it after a few minutes, but on the second viewing (this was many years ago), I actually stuck with it and it turned out pretty decent. There were a few interesting moments that stood out and made it unique, if memory serves.
I did think the replay value was kind of low though.

From what I remember, ADV re-encoded the CPM rescues and the quality was a bit better since it's a newer encoding. Whatever issues were present (ie. Narue) in the CPM release were also present in the ADV version though.
