Hey all.
I just finished watching DNAngel and (as you may guess from the subject line) I'm a bit disappointed in it. The series started off so amazing and then really dwindled in the middle episodes and then had a crazy rushed ending. Now, some of this might have to do with the fact that the manga isn't finished, but it still really disappoints me that something which started out so amazing ended in such a manner (I actually think it would have made a much better 13 episode series, then a lot of the filler could have been cut and the main storyline could have had more of a chance to shine and be developed). It got bad enough that it was really more of a chore to actually watch the thing than entertainment, because I just wanted to get it over with.
ANYWAY, the point is for people to talk about what other shows have been like this.
I have others as well. I was disappointed with Death Note, which I loved at the beginning and then...didn't so much (anyone who knows the series should be able to tell the moment my enjoyment really ended).

I was disappointed with the original TV Hellsing's ending, because they had quite a battle going on there and then Integra was in a dungeon and Alucard was just hanging around asking for her orders. Which is why I'm glad they came out with the OVA. I was also disappointed with the Fruits Basket ending, because it basically ruined any chance of having a second season on top of putting some details in the ending that made it look really sour. In that case we still have the manga (and true story) to go by.

Gantz-Had an okay first season (not overly good but enough to hold my interest) but season two basically destroyed any and all chances for me to like it. First it goes off and kills the only two characters in the series I liked and then the plot takes a nose dive, we get more of the same old repetitive "games" and to top it all off a horribly confusing ending where it never even tries to explain anything about Gantz or where it came from and what it's purpose was.
Texhnolyze-I was liking it but then it decended into a confusing and depressing mess at the end with basically all of humanity dead or dying. A little too bleak for my tastes.

But did Ikki-Tousen ever present itself as anything more than a girlfight/pantyflash series? I don't think so, so I don't see IT as disappointing at all -- it laid out its goals and accomplished them.

Yeah, I see what you're saying but other series have done that and accomplished more at the same time Maburaho comes to mind (for fanservice anyways, not so much for the fighting girl stuff).

I wouldn't say Ikki Tousen, and it's sequel Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny for that matter, were disappointments personally. I'd put them in the "so bad that they ended up being quite entertaining" catagory, myself. Pure fun fluff series.

They made a sequel? I wasn't aware...well, when you look at it from that perspective I'd have to agree...after all, I'm always going to remember it, hee hee...on, I haven't made up my mind yet but I kind of wonder if Black Lagoon is going to turn out to be a big letdown...

It doesn't really matter how you felt about it but anime series are a disappointment usually because it doesn't live up to the manga fan's expectation and that is exactly why Gantz is one of the biggest anime disappointments around. It was released way too early so as usual it made up an ending, which was horrible and it didn't even reach the best part of the manga. It would be good to see a remake of it.
There are plenty of other examples of this like Ichigo 100%, which is another great manga made into a terrible, unfinished anime.

Trigun stands out in my mind as something that really ended up disappointing me. It started out really strong but I felt like it ran outta steam towards the end. The pacing was really strange, as it seems they tried to cram way too much into the last few episodes.
Kare Kano also fell apart after a certain point and the ending was a terrible mess, IMO, which is a shame because I was really smitten with the cast. However, I understand the reasons why it turned out the way it did.

So far there has only been one. The original Hellsing series. Really good for the first seven or so episodes then bleh. It's really hard to tell that the manga was still in production. So basically No Nazi's, no great storyline towards the end as it falls apart and what the hell was up with the villain? Most of the actual final fight was ok but then suddenly there's a spear or something and oh the invincible villain is dead. Ok. Oh Integra's locked up somewhere
I don't know if I'll watch it again.

Spiral - Good for the suspense. But a lot of questions were not fully answered and they just seemed to float around. One thing that bothered was how Ayumi would keep mentioning his brother and he never shows up , which became redundant. By the end of the series something felt missing and the way some the characters behaved was weird.

Code Geass was really hyped up to be something awsome, and I adored the character desings and from the opening, I thought I was gonna love it.
But a few episodes in, I realised that I absolutly did not care one bit about any of the characters or what happening to them. Stopped watching, never finished it. I was quite dissapointed.

I would say one of my biggest disappointments was Mai Otome. I loved Mai HiME, and because of that i expected an awesome show out of its sequel. However, even though the sequel itself was not bad. i didn't enjoy it nearly as much as i enjoyed Mai HiME. The story line did not seem nearly as developed. it seemed like a lot of fan service, and i often found the main characters annoying, and the storyline predictable. specially since the foreshadowing was sometimes painfully obvious, taking away many of the surprises of the show.

Vuwazy I agree with you. Spiral was one of the few series that ended so abruptly that I wished I did not buy the dvd set.
