Hi. I realize this may not be the best place to ask this, but there is no "general japanese culture" subforum, so...
I notice on a bunch of anime/manga that in many events featuring the "idols" of said anime/manga, or even in cosplay events there seems to be a huge problem with filming. What i saw was hidden cameras (shirt pocket, bagpack, etc.) that when found produced some violent and destructive (usually upon the cameraman and the camera itself) results... Is it such a bad thing (or even forbidden) to film the cosplay/idol events? If yes, why? Does it fall under the same category of our western paparazzi? |

Not really sure why they would frown upon people secretly filming an event that might later be a special feature on the DVD release of an anime series....
I think the Japanese people are a bit more "private" than the typical Hollywood people. Heck some video game creators have to use an alias to produce games (cause if they gave their real names, they probably would get mobs of people following them). |

Well, if it's going to be a special feature on the DVD then keeping it private encourages DVD sales right?
Plus, there are seiyuu and stuff who might not want their picture taken, especially from some angles. Kinda reminds me of that one scene in the final ep of first season of Genshiken anime. |
