vash: I actually think casey meant well, since she does have a point about the depiction of African-Americans in the genre. But I'm guessing any such potential imagery in Devil Blues was probably used in an ironic context.

Yeah, anyone who reads manga has seen their fare share of awful depictions of just about any non-Japanese person, and it probably was unfair of me to bring it up. She reviews enough Tezuka to be made sensitive to it. :-/ Still, it's nice to hear that her fears may have been completely unfounded, if an organization like this gives it such honors.

The omnibus book was really hard to read though - my hand got sore holding it up. And no colour pages - arrrghhhh!

Glad to see this manga getting some recognition, not to mention an award of this nature given the content of the series. It's one of the best manga available in English that most people aren't reading. (I'm an African American, by the way.)

The problem is that we're already caught up to the Japanese release, with no Japanese releases currently in sight. As barbapapa said, the series is on hiatus. Hiramoto needs to write more ASAP.
