Wow, that's cool.

But...

Quote:
According to Cha, Miyazaki's contract with Disney requires him to make a U.S. appearance.

Damn... Hope he still doesn't mind coming here. Not like he has to deal with a convention or anything.

Well, he's getting an award, so it can't be all that bad. Laughing

Congrats! If Manga King Shotaro Ishinomori or Manga God Osamu Tezuka were still alive, this would be could for them to have a lifetime achievement with Miyazaki.

Do you think that this is something that you can buy tickets to? Or more like something that you have to be a Berkley student to see? I live like 30 minutes away from Berkley, so if the general public is allowed I want to go!

I go there and I actually have no idea how it would work, but I'd assume that it would be open to the public...

But yeah... gotta find out about this.

He's already gotten so many awards though so it could be bad if he doesn't really want to come here.

The Center has a mailing list for announcements and I have seen nothing regarding this event.

If you want to get on the mailing list go to:

http://ieas.berkeley.edu/mailing/

This is so cool, also Roland Kelts is a Lecturer at the University of Tokyo and a great guy.

I wanna go, but I have an aversion to stoners and pseudo-hippies, so...

I'd definitely go as Berkeley is about half an hour away, but alas it's the same weekend as San Diego ComicCon...

Congrats to Mr. Miyazaki!

Ooh, and I just transferred into UC Berkeley to be an Asian Studies major! It's a sign! Anime hyper Hopefully there will be some sort of public ceremony.

Though, I think Miyazaki dislikes coming to the US. If I remember correctly, he didn't even come to the US to receive his Oscar for Spirited Away in person. I think it was because the US had just invaded Iraq...
So I'm pretty sure he's been 'persuaded' by Disney to go to this.
Well, everyone will just have to be on their best behavior so he might willingly come back one day!

that's assuming its going to be open to the public Confused Im gonna ask my friends sister tomorrow if she knows anything about it, since she is a) a student at Berkley and b) her major is in Japanese. Plus she's an anime fan, so maybe she knows more info.

If this event is similar to the one with Murakami in the fall (it sounds like it's the same prize), it's probably open the public, but you'll have to buy tickets. If I recall correctly, the Murakami event sold out relatively quickly, so if you're interested in going, you'll want to keep an eye out for when tickets go on sale.
