To be expected, that movie was possibly the worst movie ever made. I've watched horriable movies, but nothing is as horriable as this. Even the Astro Boy movie looks better and that is saying a lot since Astro boy hair looks like a ice cream swirl.

Are they still planning to make a sequel?
edit: although a squeal wouldn't hurt them at this point... |

This film probably would have done a bit better if there was more advertising for it.

Why is there so much hate for Dragonball Evolution? I don't understand it--what did that film ever do to deserve it?
I may not have seen it, but it looks very good. PROVE ME WRONG! |

No, it isn't even close. There are movies so mind-bogglingly horrible they are used to test the limits of the human mind. More specifically how many incredibly bad movies a typical human can withstand before they go insane. |

Unless I see a director's cut with Goku and Roshi fighting Piccolo while ice skating, Batman and Robin STILL is the #1 king, at least in terms of worst adaption (worst movie is a little trickier to decide). |

Funny you linked that, walking out of the movie I mentioned how I couldn't wait for RiffTrax to put commentary to that. Here's the problems, total departure of the source material, over used hollywood cliche, entirely different tone then any iteration of Dragonball, complete inconsistency of effects(some were awesome and amazing, some looked like they were thrown together at the last minute), extremely poor exposition of the plot they made, extremely inconsistent character development. And I'm amazed that I got that all together without spoiling the movie. spoiler[Goku beats Piccolo, Roshi dies, Roshi wished back to life by Dragonballs. Am I the only one annoyed that Goku wished by the guy he only knew for a week and not his grandfather? ] |

When you can't even get the main character right, it shows a lot of disdain for the source material. Even given the attempt to completely rework the concept, you cannot make Goku a self-conscious highschool student. The last thing Son Goku is self-conscious. He doesn't care about his nudity, he doesn't mind patting people to see if they're male or female, he'll eat you out of house and home like it was a natural thing to do. He's essentially a super strong backwoods hillbilly.
Never does Goku say, "I don't think I can do this." He says, "How can I do this?" or "I can't wait to do this!" Of course, there's nothing wrong with inwardly thinking, reflective characters. But the charm of Goku is just how impulsive and straight-forward he is. He's comically simple, but has a good heart and isn't "stupid", just naive. He's not, in any shape or form, a sullen teenageer. It's fine to have a sullen teenager character in a movie. But that's not Goku. It's not Dragon Ball, and it will never be. |

Actually, I saw several trailers for this everyday, mostly on cable networks geared towards kids, like CN and Nickelodeon. I think too much advertising hurt it more. The more trailers you saw, the worse it looked. (I've also noticed the same thing with Wolverine. The more commercials I see, the less interested I am in seeing it.) |

Serves this movie right. I sure damn hope this kills all and any intention of a sequel/trilogy.

That hit the nail on the head for me. I haven't seen the movie yet, but from following it through trailers and leaked info all I could think of was "Why?!". It's like Fox set out from the start to make sure Dragonball was terrible. When I found out James Marsters was cast as Piccolo I was actually excited about the movie--in fact, he's probably the only reason I will see it. But no, they had to go and destroy Goku. What I really don't understand is that the cast and crew most likely read the source material, even Akira Toriyama was executive producer if my memory serves me right, and yet they throw out the things that makes Goku so awesome. I just don't know what they were thinking. If they asked any other person who knew about Dragonball I'm sure they'd be told that Goku's personality needs to remain intact. |

You obviously have not experienced all that many movies. Try Blair Witch Project for one. The only reason I didn't walk was because I figured with all the fuss everyone was making, it had to turn into having a real plot somewhere. I should have walked. And it proved to me people will watch the worst crap on word of mouth. |

I'm sorry, but some of us DO have a reason to like Blair Witch Project. Did it have much of a plot? No, but it was a horror film, and it excelled brilliantly in that department. In fact, I've yet to see an American horror film released after BWP that has scared me, so it's kinda like a last farewell to a beloved genre (thankfully Japan and Spain still know how to deliver the scares in movies). BWP did an incredible execution of HP Lovecraft's "greatest fear is the fear of the unknown" belief, and those who loved the movie usually are ones who appreciate that belief. All those expecting some CGI or guy in a monster/witch suit, yeah, you'll be disappointed. Go see Cloverfield or something (which I enjoyed, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't scary). Sorry for getting off-topic here, but you sounded somewhat judgmental on those who enjoy BWP (which I didn't see on "word of mouth", a friend rented it, so we watched it). |

I don't think we can say Dragonball is the worst movie or even the worst adaption but you know Sturgeons Law. Well let's just say Dragonball Evolution falls into that 90%.
