I was looking at some previews today for advent children after work. Of course it looks sweet its final fantasy 7 (Hottest RPG ever, although 9 and 6 and 5 were close runners). But... the whole sephroith just not looking cool like he used to took something from it. And is advent children before or after the game takes place?

I don't mind the fact that Sephiroth looks a little feminine. So what? There are plenty of anime characters that do the same thing (aka bishounen). At least I know who's playing his (Japanese) voice, and that will more than definately make up for what "coolness" he lacks.
By the way, 6 is better, in my opinion. |

He does kinda look like a girl, but I've only seen one trailer, so I only saw him turn in the fire and walk away. Even if he does look like a girl, he will ALWAYS kick ass!

Blame it on the fangirls who lust after androgynous men, be they pixels or real.

You obviously didn't see azumi (or probably follow asian movie) or read ragnarok. For example the two villian in those two show are bishounen, but not the type that would attract female viewer. When done to a villain it just implied that they're sick or just in a ill-mental state. You can even concluded that he's crazier than the average regular person. In some way, it's scary to go against someone like that. I'm guessing this is what being done to sephiroth, he's not that macho guy rambo style, but rather is silent, swift and crazy. |

He does look a little feminine. I personally don't like the style. In my opinion they should have kept the anime style instead of trying to make everyone look Asian (yes I know the Japanese are making it for a Japanese audience). Don't get me wrong, the movie looks great but everyone looks very odd (especially Cloud). It just doesn't seem to fit. As far as Sephiroth when I first saw him I thought he looked like Marilyn Manson.

It's generally due to culture differences. People in Asia tend to prefer hero/character that is tall, lean, clean and has pretty boy look versus Hollywood's rugged, deep voice, muscled and crew cut hair.
Go search for the most popular Asian actors, excluding action actors like Jackie Chan, Jet Lee, etc, and you'll likely notice that majority of them have clean cut "pretty" looks with longer than norm hairstyle and do not have guns to show off. With that said, I prefer the new Seph & Cloud even though I know most US people hated it. |

Well with the new Initial D live movie in progress and american fans who are not used to asian movies, they are definitely going to hate Takumi who's being played by pretty boy, pop-singer Jay Chou who took over the role of pertty boy Edison Chen. Well I definitely prefer the new Seph and Cloud because they somehow look more realistic than those CG from FF7. |

If it'd been me directing, I'd have stuck with animating the original Kousuke Fujishima character designs, but I've no quarrel with the "realistic" Sephiroth and Cloud. Quite honestly, with the CGI Sephiroth they've nailed a rare quality I like to call (and experiment with in my writing) "grotesque beauty".
"Grotesque beauty", as I interpret it, is a beauty that is wholly un-natural and surrealistic. In many ways, it's an exaggeration of traditional beauty that is intended to bring out a character's warped or damaged nature and set them apart from more normal characters. For another good example of "grotesque beauty" look to Griffith from Berserk. |

Excellent, excellent choice of words! I've noticed this sort of thing with a few other bishie bad guys as well, but never knew what to call it. Thank you, thank you. And while the not everyone may like FFVII, I can say I will enjoy this when it comes out, though I'm not as big a fan as I used to be of the game anymore, but it still looks good (I guess.. ). Grotesque beauty... |

Griffith isnt real though. If you want the "real" grotesque beauty, search for Gackt on google. Think of him as Squall from FF 8 but real human. That, is scary my friend http://cielaim.nahome.org/koze/gackt.gif Edit: Added Gackt's url to scare you all |
