I remember quite liking the movie of 5 Centimetres per Second so this is definitely a title I'd consider checking out. I do regret not picking up the DVD before it went OOP (assuming it is still OOP, of course).

fudge yea ARIA. Always loved reading this stuff.
Also worth checking out is Amachu. More modern age but who gives a damn, it's so pretty.

Aww how disappointing, I really liked Alice in the Country of Hearts, and Boris as a character in that as well. Well I've ordered a copy, hopefully I won't find it as bad...although lewd comments as a way of winning a girls heart definitely sounds like a turn off -_- I don't remember the characters being like that in Country of Hearts?

IIRC Aria was voted pretty high on one of Vertical's licensing polls.

Aria has the same issue as YKK when it comes to Vertical: Ed Chavez doesn't really like these titles and doesn't want to do them, no matter how loved they are. This case has been made continually made over & over, yet people still ask Vertical to do them.
Also, Aria was left unfinished by two different companies, and TokyoPop was barely getting volumes out after about Volume 3, so at this point Aria is essentially a money vacuum at this point & I really doubt anyone will ever pick it up again, except for maybe JManga.

It is still available. Both Amazon and RightStuf have it in stock. (Amazon's price is lower, though the opposite is true for the manga.)
I will probably get 5cm/s eventually. I love the movie and will want to read the manga too.
Aria sounds pretty good. I hope someone rescues it.
Jui Jui and Makeshift Miracle both sound intriguing to me. I may check them out...
Thanks! Lots of stuff to look into with this column!

Crunchyroll has the license now and its in stock so someone can buy a copy now.
I highly recommend the movie because of it's approach to finding and losing love is pretty unique and not done in cinema often.

I don't think you have much to worry about, When I read the review I was bit taken aback. I didn't agree with it at all, I Don't even remember any lewd comments being made. (except for maybe blood hitting on Alice...) I started reading Alice in the Country of Hearts after reading Cheshire Cat Waltz and I don't think the content level is much different (Except they are focusing on Boris x Alice). ' u ';;

Wait, what? I love ARIA. I gave it rave reviews at AOD back in the day. Even went back to review it for my podcast years later when TP re-released it. Liked AQUA too. However...

THIS!
By the way, it did not rate high on the poll actually. Didn't get enough for 2% of the vote. Amanchu on the other hand did better.

Oops. Sorry about that, Ed. I remember you bring up Aria once while also talking about YKK, so I guess I got the wrong message from it. I do agree that Aria is a great title, though I've only read Aqua & Volume 1 of Aria, but anyone who thinks that Aria still has a chance at getting a proper, complete, & physical release is just not looking at things realistically.

I actually liked Jiu Jiu. The story may be weak, but I really enjoyed the interactions between the characters and I thought it had a very stylish shoujo horror feel to it. I loved the art too. The cute moments are cheesy, but they're still very sweet. It's a guilty pleasure just like Vampire Knight.

But it does work! How many times have they feel flattered when heard such as "That's a fine piece of @ss, b1tch!"

I think you need to see a doctor. Laughter is the best medicine but laughing non-stop for several years has to be hell on thejaw and diaphram. Also, I pity anyone who has to sit next to you at the movies or a funeral.

I love 5 centimeters per second!
I have a thing against manga adapted from anime because they feel wrong footed in the medium when you see scenes you *know* work better in motion and incredibly awkward sequences that attempt and fail to create the source materials, but this is nothing like that. And it adds to the characters, especially in that the first act is much more nostalgic than the anime with the first love letter thing. It isn't as vibrant but the character designs are greatly improved -- that says more about the anime really.
What I like most about Shinkai is the atmosphere, and hey, the manga has it. Just look at the cover.
Thanks for reviewing this Carlos.
