I was actually planning to get my friend an anime dvd but I do not really know which one to buy for him....
He's a Mahoromatic fan, but I don't know if there are any animes out there that are similar to Mahoromatic, or even better animes....
Can anyone please help me with this problem?
Thank you......

[edit: subject adjusted to match content. Please make topics specific and not just "I need help, thanks.". Thank you! -L]

you want maid animes? If so check out Hand Maid May or Amazing nurse NAnako (not the best show, but if he likes MAhoromatic for the teacher and her assets, he'll love Nanako)

ALso, tell him about an anime by Gainax that is practically A MAhoromatic clone, in that the characters Hikari and Akari look EXACTLY like Mahoro and minawa, except different clothes/hair colors. There are monster fights in it also, but the ending sucked IMO. Its also not a very good show, but it is a hell of a lotl ike MAhoromatic in terms of boobtastic fanservice and over the top situations and cute superhuman characters.

I'm thinking anime with excessive fan service.

Love Hina
Steel Angel Kurumi?
Elfen Lied
Nurse Witch Komugi

Elfen Lied may have excessive fanservice, but it also has excessive violence spoiler[such as severed limbs, heads, etc.], so it probably shouldn't be lumped into the same category.

It may be a bit off the path however I might try to suggest Tenchi Muyo its a little long however with its forceful invasion of space pirates, mad scientists, galactic police officers, and dont forget princesses. All with love twists and plot buildup. I don't know maby research it, if it fits your criteria then great. If not sorry I couldn't help further.

This would be Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushii Sekai (or simply Konomini), and I was just about to recommend this one, myself. Very Happy

Yes, this one is basically in the exact same vein as Mahoromatic in terms of tone, style, scenario, etc. If you like one, odds are you'll like the other (though, admittedly, Mahoromatic is more of a quality production than Konomini).

After all, they were produced and voiced by the same staff and cast, with mirroring respective roles. Rolling Eyes

Another non-harem romantic comedy with lots of fan service is the Please! series (Teacher and Twins). Both have better storyline than Mahoromatic, and Teacher is the better one of the two with better character development and romance. IMO Twins are not as bad as many have claimed; it may not be as well written as Teacher, but I like its lightheartedness and the relationship between two girls both as best friends and worst competitors. The series the others are referring to as being a Mahoromatic clone might be more easily found by its English name: This Ugly and Beautiful World (a very accurate name, IMO). While I agree that it's a clone artistically-speaking and there are a few similar story elements, it is a completely different series in terms of overall plotting and is generally more philosophical in tone. It also has significantly less fan service. Unfortunately it isn't available on DVD outside of Japan yet because, to my knowledge, it hasn't even been licensed. (I expect it to get picked up soon, though.) I liked it and would give it a "B" grade overall.

And I must disagree with dormcat on the comparison of Mahoromatic to Please Teacher! I consider the former (at least its first season, anyway) to be a classic example of a series that comes together exceptionally well despite being built with stock elements.

As for similar series? There are lots of other "combat maid" series out there but none that I've seen capture the sad undertones of Mahoromatic. Steel Angel Kurumi is probably the closest fit.

The strange thing about Mahoromatic is I was so into the story and the relationship b/t Mahoro and Shigeru, that the exsessive fanservice and nudity always came out of nowhere, never seemed to fit. But it was always funny as hell.

I know about the nbame of the show, in English and Japanese, I was just too lazt to type it all out at the time lol.

Id personally give it a low C grade, because Gainax really had a cool idea, but they completely threw it away. They get major props for reusing Mahoro and Minawa as Hikari and Akari though, that is one of hte cutest character designs I have ever seen. And the fact that they are both very powerful and capable war machines makes them even better.

Is this even out on DVD in the US (nonbootleg)? He said he's planning on getting his friend a anime dvd.
