I think the dub should get a much lower grade. O_o

I don't normally rant about dub voices, but I found Mitsuki's to be way too loud and old for her, not to mention how nasaly it is. Almost all of the dub voices are wrong for the characters, really (Wakaouji's and Eiichi's were the only ones I could stand to listen to). And Meroko's is just plain annoying!

As a long-time fan of the series, I'd hate to have people think it's terrible because they watched the dub first. Anime cry

And yes, the series does get better, even though there are lots of filler episodes. ^^

I don't agree with the summary... you can't judge a 50+ episode series by the first four episodes. If you go straight into the meat of the music and plot in the first four episodes, what can you do in the coming 50?

And on another note, i'm still annoyed at this 4 episode/disc fad. I'd much rather pay $30-50 for 6-8 episodes per disc for a long series, then $20-30 for 15 dvd's.

Gotta love gouging the customer.

P.S. Yes I know all the arguements on licenses, DVd length, etc. I sitll think it's sick, and rude. Throw out 100's of dollars for a series, and waste alot of dvd rack space when it could be had at half the price, or even the same price on half the dvd's.

They aren't reviewing the entire series, they're reviewing the first four episodes, so the scores are based on this DVD alone. Hopefully this will save you from being insulted by another member.

If the story could just get moving and not dwell so much on a long-lost love, then it could really fulfill its promise as a romantic drama with supernatural touches.

Sadly, Full Moon wo Sagashite's biggest weakness, in my opinion, is the large number of filler episodes. They tend to be entertaining, but things tend to drag out quite a bit in the early portion of the series (and by early portion, I mean the first 20 or so episodes). The series is very rewarding if you stick with it, but it does take a bit of patience.

Take note of the disc's language settings, though: there are only two subtitle options, On or Off, with no middle ground for song lyrics and signs.

Gah, so stupid. I guess Viz is still getting used to this whole song subtitling thing. I guess dub viewers can just turn the subs on when the songs are being sung and then turn them off when they are over, but that's pain. At least they actually bothered to sub it. Do the subtitles include subtitles for the opening and ending?

Gaah. . . why does this come up every time we review the first volume of a series in even a slightly negative fashion?

As JoshuaStChristopher said, Carlos is only reviewing the first four episodes, so he can only pass judgment on the first four episodes. Unless the review specifically states that it's for the whole series, that's always the case. And frankly, I thought Carlos went out of his way to stress that his comments applied only to the first volume, not necessarily the whole series. Clearly he's seen a lot more than he's reviewing here.

Actually it would be 13 DVDs in this case, but I know that's beside the point. But at least it's not the 3-per-DVD pattern they've done with Inuyasha and it's still better than the Japanese DVD release.

Really, if shelf space and cost are that much of a concern, then just wait for the inevitable boxed set/thinkpak release a year and a half down the road. . .

Heh, one of the regular comments I get when I have similar said to me is "You should have downloaded the entire series and watched that and then made an accurate review."

I'm so jealous! You guys pre-ordered! Crying or Very sad :joke:

Full Moon is suffering from the "1st volume review" blues. I'm glad that the songs did receive a karaoke treatment.

I think that Carlos did a good job of reviewing the first 4 ep. without revealing any future spoilers.

Ha! People are funny.

FMWS' only real weakness IMO is that the first few episodes are pretty weak, and not really indicative of how the series is going to be. They're altogether very happy-silly and self-contined, whereas most of the series is a continuing story with some very well-written drama to balance out the pink sparklies.

So anyone who's bumming over the relativly low volume one score, relax. I guarentee future volumes will get higher ratings. This show improves a LOT in a very few episodes. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to give certain episodes (people who've seen it know which ones I mean) an A rating.

My only real complaint is that Viz seems to be taking forever to bring out future volumes.

Considering they're only releasing 4 dvds a year for this series, I think the box set(s) are a lot further away than that. I doubt one will even come out before the series is completed, which will take 3 years at the current release schedule. I'm waiting on a box since 1) I don't trust Viz to finish it if sales are bad (remember Corrector Yui, and MI wouldn't have been finished if TRSI hadn't stepped in), 2) it's a blind buy as I've only seen the first episode, and it didn't really grab me, even though I've heard good things and 3) I hate the release pattern, which is actually the worst thing this release has going for it.

My only problem about the review is that Eichi is mentioned as Mitsuki's boyfriend. They were just childhood friends who grew emotionally close, but nothing else developed.

Agreed. There are certain episodes in there that are powerful enough to make normally tough, stoic men cry. I'm not kidding. The story is so powerful at those points that the emotional impact is practically overwhelming.

I said the summary, not the entire series, nor the grades. A 52 episode series can't be sampled by the first 4 episodes. Unless of course it's a Gundam series, then the mecha otaku, or action junkies can get their fill.

I remember watching Full Moon wo Sagashite a couple years back at my university's anime club. If it wasn't for the fact that it was sandwiched between Hikaru no Go & Azumanga Daoh, I probably would never have given it a chance. But thank goodness I did, as it turned out to be one of my favorite series ever.

The only problem with Full Moon is that it takes a LONG time to get to the good & main part of the story. The first 26 episodes were basically just fluff, & only kept me vaguely interested. They weren't bad, but the absent of a solid plot is usually a negative in my book. But then things finally started to get good at the half-way point. & then those final 10 episodes... my god. No way I wanna spoil anything, but those last 10 were some of the most amazing stuff I've ever seen. Those 10 alone make up for the first 26.
