Ok maybe I should leave Fios if they willingly hand over peoples identities so easily. And it looks like that company aren't playing fair in these lawsuites seeing as the crap that comes up when you google them.

If Verizon has already handed over the names, but the judge ordered the identities sealed, does that mean that no future action can be taken against them and whoever verizon gave the information to has to destroy it? Or is it still admissible in court?

If the plaintiff and the plaintiff's attorney have destroyed the list of names and the subpoena response they received, what evidence would they have to show who the John Does are?

It's worse than that; they'd basically been ordered not to turn over the identities. So not only did they not respect their users' privacy, they broke the law to do it!

I think Verizon probably made an error here in an attempt to comply with the subpoena before the stay. They are likely not doing a good job of keeping up with these kinds of things. The costs of complying with idiotic laws is high.

In general, does an ISP have a privacy obligation? I mean, if there was no court case, could they just tell a third party who some of their users were?

In the US that would depend on state privacy laws.

Probably still admissible depending on how the case goes.
