If 170,000 anime fans all over the world donate $5 per person, Kick Heart would reach $1 million goal. Generally $5 covers lunch at a fast food joint.
If you really care about anime and consider yourself as a fan, please pledge at least $5.

Simple. Don't donate, don't bother debating about it and saying how dumb it is, shut up about it and instead pay mind to whatever you do like.

"Ve vill haff no vurds of dissent HERE! HAIL HITLER!!!"
Well guess what? This is 'Merica (F--- YEAH!) and I'm allowed to tell you that I don't want to put money towards an anime about... wrestling?
I do like the crowd-funding idea though and really wish this could get more press so it could get more funders. This model has worked particularly well for board games and video games, but judging from the low number of responses it doesn't look like it has gotten much traction or much awareness... it just doesn't seem to be catching on for this particular idea.

Paying for a LA party/screeening I couldn't attend isn't, however.

Same here. Unless it's an anime about girls in a high school wrestling club and in the club room there's a corner where they drink tea and eat cake and sometimes play instruments. Or an anime about Strong Bad.

That's not how Kickstarter works I find. Most successful projects average out to each person donating at least 50 or 100 dollars or so... and that's ignoring ones I've seen where 50+ people donate 1000, 5000 or 10,000 dollars. Kickstarter seems to attract the 'I got way more money than I know what to do with' crowd. Assuming those 10,000 donators actually pay up and aren't just troll donations.
I only pay attention to video game kickstarters, but it seems those never break 100,000 backers. 170,000 seems completely unrealistic. Kickstarter is essentially "the loud minority makes their voice heard". How else could 20,000 people fund a 3,000,000 dollar game.

It's not possible to do that unless you intentionally pull out right before it reaches its goal. And that's not exactly easy given that you never know when it may reach it.
