I was surprised the other day to find that one of my favorite songs on Archenemy's latest CD, The day you died, was actually inspired by the Grave of the fireflies anime (it even says so in the booklet).

I was bit of wowed, since it mixes up 2 of my favorite things, anime and metal!

Did anyone heard that song?

Or does anyone know of other songs (not necessarily metal) that is based on a manga or anime?

No but I definitely enjoy my metal when I can get it in anime as rare as it is. For instance the soundtracks to Black Lagoon, Claymore, and Devil May Cry are some of my favorite. For other shows it's mostly just the openings/endings that are rock or metal.

Well what do you know. I got the album but haven't had a chance to dig into it. That's really cool that Arch Enemy has a song inspired by an anime.

Yeah, especially a classic like that.

Here's to Deicide doing a song based on Totoro. Very Happy

Really, I never would've expected that in a million years. I'll pick up the CD for certain.

I met Glen Danzig at Anime Expo back in 1995. I also have an old Metallica Laser Disc which has Kirk Hammett wearing a Devilman T-Shirt.

I dunno if I'd classify those soundtracks as metal, or having it in them, but I do agree they are very good. I've heard the BL and DMC soundtracks personally. Count me as another metal/anime supporter. Maybe one of these days we'll get lucky and have some action series with some nice Scandinavian mental in it. A metal version of Beck perhaps. Very Happy Now that would be awesome heh.

Isn't Bastard! chock full of metal and metal references? Then there's f'ing guilty gear, which is the most metal game... ever. Not anime (seriously, why not?), but it has anime illustrations and is from japan, so whatever.

Oh, God, yes. The Wikipedia page lists some of them, but the two most obvious ones are the name Dark Schneider (Dee Snider, anyone?) and the city Metallicana.

As far as metal and anime goes, the English dub of the Street Fighter II movie features songs by Korn, Alice In Chains, and more, and Tekken's English dub had Corrosion of Conformity, among others. i haven't seen either in ages.

The most popular song ever to have an anime reference, though, is Barnaked Ladies' "One Week": "Get in tune with Sailor Moon 'because that cartoon has got the boom anime babes that make me think the wrong things." Just imagine if he had seen Kodomo no Jikan, eh? Razz

Isnt there a city regarding Megadeth, and something to do with King Diamond also?

I know composer Nobuo Uematsu has done some metal themes particularly in Final Fantasy 10 and a symphonic metal version Sephiroth's theme in Final Fantasy Advent Children. He's said on the DVD that he wanted the metal sound and symphonic sound to sound more seamlessy integrated instead of in his opinion that when symponic elements and metal are combined it sounds like the orchestral/symphonic elements are added to metal or vice versa.

Even though it's not anime although it's animated if you haven't checked out Metalocalypse on Adult swim you are missing out. The show is about a fictional metal band Dethklok and it's kind of like This is Spinal Tap with a death metal influence. It has so many stereotypes, references, and inside jokes. They even just recently put out a cd of full length versions of the songs on the show. On the album the shows creator Brendan Small does all instruments and vocals except for Drums which Gene Hoglan of Strapping Young Lad has drumming duties.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Japanese production company put out a similar show in anime with their own culture and sensibilities.

Another Adult Swim show Aqua Teen Hunger Force had metal band Mastodon as a parody of the concession stand song "Let's go out to the movies" animated short that used to appear at the beginning of any theatrical released film. Mastodon does like a King Diamondesque theme warning viewers of how they should watch the movie or suffer the consequences.

If you like the more metal parts of Final Fantasy check out Uematsu's rock band The Black Mages CDs. This tends to have a progressive rock influence on them as well. Really great stuff.

Indeed, I'd love to hear a little Nightwish or Within Temptation in my anime. Heck we got Origa to do music for GITS: SAC and they were a Russian group, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibillities but pretty unlikely. As for the OST I listed no they're not true metal they're electronically produced instrumental pieces using metal "instruments" and tempo, (not all the tracks are rock/metal either) but they're great stuff that gets me rockin' out. I also don't mind that fact because I like techno/electronica/trance music too. Witchblade is another one.

Yeah, Tekken also has a song from one of my favorite bands Stabbing Westward, called "Save Yourself".

I guess you didn't read the Wikipedia page you posted the link to. It says Dark Schneider is a reference to Udo Dirkschneider, lead singer of Accept, not Dee Snider.
The Legend of Black Heavenhas an opening theme by John Sykes and the main character is a fan of Michael Schenker and his former band UFO.
Also the music for Geneshaft was done by Akira Takasaki

I love the music for Geneshaft. Takasaki also did the music for Odin. I actually almost saw Loudness the last time they were in San Francisco. They have a decent sized following in the States.
