or plus size cosplay to say it best but im a plus size woman. i wont say y weight but its under 200 but what are the tips and characters plus size cosplaying otaku stick too? i perfer things that arent showy and skimpy because 1. cosplay malfunctions and 2. fat spilling out sides (ex. muffintop effect or blob spill) 3. no spandex or fanservice.
but then with all the anime girls looks what can i a fat gal do?

If you wear a miko with a long black wig, you could be Rei Hino from Sailormoon or Kikiyo from InuYasha
But regardless how show-y something is, if you wanna cosplay as it, go for it. Nobody's gonna say anything to you, but it's entirely up to you. Do whatever you feel in your heart

99% of anime girls have extremely unrealistic bodies that only supermodels would possess. They are purposely designed like this. If you're a little to big for the character you're cosplaying as, I can say you would not be anywhere near the first. In fact, most cosplayers I have seen do not have the correct body size, and are too big. This is more because anime characters have unrealistic body sizes, rather than people being to big (well, in the US it's actually a combination of both, but anyway)... So, I say cosplay as whoever you like.

Exactly. You (and 99.99% of everyone else out there) may not be able to pull of a good Tifa with her tiny belly, ginormous chest and ripped bisceps (for a girl anyway ), but there's so many characters like Saya, Saber, Kino, Rakka, Shizune, Lacus, Haruhi (either, though I was thinking of Ouran), Fuu, Lain (I've never seen anyone in the bear suit... I want one of those sooo bad...), Youko... the thing is, if you're under 200 like you say, the most important thing to decide who you should be is: who you want to be, maybe who you think your facial structure is closest to, and how much effort you want to put into it. In other words: sorry, we can't help you too much. We don't know what you look like, and we certainly don't know what your tastes are, much less how motivated and how much free time you have

luckly for me (a guy) they have at least some non ideal male character designs i.e., Chouji from Naruto...this I cosplayed as at AWA this past fall. I honestly can't think of any female characters that would fit your mold unless that character was intended solely for comic relief.
I agree when they say cosplay what you feel like, but like you, I also do not like it when I see girls...overflowing, for lack of a better term. cosplay or not, i don't like it.

True, I perhaps should also have specified by saying that there are plenty of characters with less revealing outfits (Saya anyone? She has a trenchcoat )

well actually the japanese envy americans for one particular reason....yes ladies and gentlemen, BOOBS! we have some very nice ones over here. how often do u see a well endowed asian? less than a fat one!
[quote]1. cosplay malfunctions and 2. fat spilling out sides (ex. muffintop effect or blob spill) 3. no spandex or fanservice. quote]
i got one type of example: dont dress like rei ayanami if u look like youve eaten three of her clones. SPANDEX ARE A PRIVLEGE.
I've also seen a pic of a 20 something very bulky girl dressed as alvis hamilton from last exile.....ill never get rid of that memory. she's GOTTA BE lLIKE 8 DAMMIT! and pretty small.
the problem with cosplay is that most anime characters are skinny, whereas in the US skinniness is becomming rarer. plus the body types are unrealistic. women with ta-tas that big should not be able to move around so easily. its only for the "bounce effect"

good example. Saber was a nice one too, cause of the armor and such.
the thing about japan is that all they really have to do is add padding for a lot of cosplays, or a fake cleavage or something.

You and me both. I'm just a big bulky surly walrus of a man. Can thank the celtic/viking genes for that. My back looks like a damn chia pet so gotta make sure I cover up. As people have said go as who you want. Spandex is a priviledge, one I don't have for sure, so be realistic. Other than that be whoever you want. I don't care how big or small a chick is. I pay attention to how detailed and how nice the costume looks. That's the key. You also have to carry yourself well. Don't act trash and you won't be viewed as trashy. Two best examples;
1. At Otakon one year this was this mix (white/black) girl dressed as Urd from Oh My Goddess. She was plus size, I'd say about 160-175lbs. Anyone following the show knows Urd wears the sexiest/skimpiest outfits in the show (next to her mother Hild). This girl wore this purple and black outfit of Urds and damn did she not look hot. She had the sexy walk, the sultry look on her. She didn't act trashy, she acted seductive. The way she carried herself and acted her weight didn't matter at all. She looked great!
2. Man Faye, yes I said Many Faye! He may look.....scary.... but he has the balls to go as who he wants. He doesn't cfare what people think and simply does what he wants and has fun. You gotta just let go and have fun. Maybe you look silly, who cares? If you're having fun the hell with what others think. Be yourself and just let it loose and have fun. Though if your legs are as hairy as Man Faye's I suggest a shave first heh

How about Satsuki Yotsuba from Negima?
She's a little big, and it would probably be easy to get a chef-like costume and have Chao Bao Zi written on it.

Well, you know, as a woman, it much easier and not as shocking when we crossplay. I saw this young woman crossplaying as an awesome looking Edward (Fullmetal Alchemist) at Mechacon this past August. And I'm pretty sure I saw a female crossplaying as Sasuke (Naruto) as well.
Then there are the generic designs/uniforms that you could wear and not specifically be cosplaying a certain character. Such as a uniform from the Cyborg 009 series or an Alchemist officer uniform from FMA. Though, I can understand how those wouldn't be as fun as finding a certain character.

Honestly, I say this: If you're overweight (like me...), then avoid cosplays at any costs, even if you really want to do it. As PantsGoblin said, 99.9% of the anime girls there are just ilogically thin, so we'd be only fooling ourselves (ad I should know... I've seen lots of cosplay pics with FAT, FAT, FAT people, and believe me, it's not nice to see)
Although if you're really wishing to do it, then spandex is your choice (although try to favor characters with ample clothings... It may help ya a lot)
Anyway, good luck
