I'm listening to Billy Idol's Cry Little Sister, and the lyrics:
A last fire will rise behind those eyes Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie Immortal fear, that voice so clear Through broken walls, that scream I hear Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall Come to your brother - Thou shall not die Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill Blue masquerade, strangers look on When will they learn this loneliness? Temptation heat beats like a drum Deep in your veins, I will not lie etc.. Work really well for Higurashi, and the music shares the dark atmospheric sound with the series. |

I remember that Beatles songs and Last Chrismas were used in Ai Monogatari as theses of some episodes.
The impression that a song that we have heard before would suit perfectly for book/movie that we are watching seems to be pretty common. For example I think that if someone had made a movie based on "Vlad: The Last Confession" he would have to use "Every beat of my heart" as theme song. As you can see that impression can walk in very strange ways. For me to the soundtracks of some series should be includes: -Natsume Yuujinchou "The Call" preformed by Celtic Woman -Sailor Moon "Moonlight Shadow" -Dragon Ball Z "Crying in the Rain" (A-ha) as theme of Vegeta I will write more as I remember. Also last time I was watching DBZ Trunks vs Frieza fight my sister was listening overture to "Marriage of Figaro". It was better than original melody! |

Cry Little Sister is actually by Gerard McMann. And yeah, it'd make a perfect song for an AMV, say for Vampire Knight. (There are actually a few already on Youtube, but most are not that good.) Another song I think would good, is Vampire Weekend's A-Punk. Though exactly what series, I don't know, maybe something hyper, like FLCL or Love Hina.

Chad Kroeger's "Hero" from the 2002 Spider-Man movie would've gone well with the 2001 version of Cyborg 009.

I think that Funhouse by pink would be a good one.

"Sick Boy" by Social Distortion would be perfect for a major shonen series like Bleach.

I think the song "Tiger the Lion" by the band The Tragically Hip would be great as an op for Ergo Proxy. The band is pretty popular, but only here in Canada, but I think the song itself is pretty niche. It just seems to evoke an image of a futuristic, desolate world. I have no idea what the song is really about .

"Girls On Film" by Duran Duran worked well in Speed Grapher. I also liked "Country Roads" in Whisper of the Heart.
What I would really want to hear is "I Need a Hero", by Bonnie Tyler. It may be cheesy, but it would be perfect for a shounen show. |

I hope I'm not considered to be bumping this topic. I was thinking 9th at Pine by Less Than Jake has a nice ska sound that would fit a fighting series ala YuYu Hakusho.

I'd say My Chemical Romances "Part Poison" would work very well for an anime theme, considering it has a girl talking in Japanese in it.

That sort of makes sense too, because I've been told one of the My Chemical Romance members is a fan, though I admit to not knowing a whole lot about the band.

The attitude of the show is the major factor in deciding what kind of opening theme will work for it. So maybe the question your post made me ask is what western song has an attitude I would like to see an anime fit. DeVotchKa - How It Ends would be great for something dark and serious, honestly it would work great for one of my favorite series Ergo Proxy. Also just about anything on the Strokes Album Room on Fire would be great, part of whats great about the strokes is how upbeat the melody can be while containing some really downer vocals which makes a nice contrast.

John Zorn's Naked City "Kaoru".
It shocks me almost that Zorn hasn't really done anything as far as composing music for anime, considering his popularity in Japan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nh3temHMd-s |

I always thought the Tom Petty song "Rhino Skin" would make a great ending theme for one of the Black Jack series.
