This was a fine series. It dragged a bit, but it was good.
I think... the last series where it had an interesting concept but mucked around for a few episodes was Scrapped Princess. Luckily, Kenji is a master of his own creations. Or... he's just VERY lucky. That being said, who thought Kenji Kawai's musical score wasn't very... affecting? This being his 2nd cohort with Kenji, I expected... more. Although, I thought it was a bit better than his 00 Gundam score. Can't wait for a review of this to come out. Are the movies any good? |

Well... after getting COMPLETELY absorbed in the perfection that is... Moribito... ...how can I not have, if not a little, respect for the man. He's quite capable of mixing multiple endeavors with cutting-edge state-of-the-art. Very few directors can do that. One that comes to mind is Omori. The guy that did Akachan to Boku, Koi Kaze, and Baccano. Hard to think of another... Mahiro Meada maybe? |

I'm currently catching up on this, so can't comment on the whole series, but this is another series I'd be streaming at ANN rather than Hulu if ANN had a queue system as good or better than Hulu.

Anyway, I can't say I'm all that big a fan of the series. I really really hate that they left the series ending wide open for the two movies. I want my anime series to at least be partially conclusive. And the movies... well, I saw the first one. Let's just say that seeing that one I'm not even sure I want to see the second. |

I totally love this series. I really can't wait for the two movies. Anyone know when they'll be released by any chance?
There were so many questions left unanswered by the end and yet, I loved the show in spite of it. That says volumes about the show since I really hate open-ended...uhh...endings that leave you hanging. Again, can't wait for the movie. spoiler[Btw, did anybody get a kick out of seeing Itazu flying/rolling like a bowling pin off of #10's car? I'm sure it was supposed to be a serious scene, but I couldn't help but laugh hard... ] |

Love the series, but no anime has had a worse "we can't secure rights so here's something else" opening than Eden of the East. I literally can't think of this series in the same way without Oasis matching the opening.

How I wish that Funi could get the blu-ray rights to Speed Grapher... ...and have Girls on Film preserved on said blu-ray discs... The show has some flaws, but... that OP with that song is one of the best "setting the mood" ones I've seen. |

Apparently on the DVD/Blu-Ray release, the first episode does feature the Oasis opening (it's all they could afford to get the rights to). So if you buy it rather than stream it, you will get the Oasis opening there. @Otaking09: I guess I'm the opposite of you. If I respect someone from a distance, it would never occur to me to call them by their first name. I mean, if I'd ever had a chance to meet Satoshi Kon (RIP), I think I would have fainted in glee and awe, and the idea of calling him Satoshi would never, ever occur to me, no more than I'd called Spielberg "Stephen" or Nolan "Christopher." Perhaps you feel more affection for them, whereas I feel adoration. About the only person for whom that's not the case would be Joss Whedon (though my respect for him has decreased after the dullness of Dollhouse and how Buffy season 8 has turned out). It's a nerd thing to call him Joss, perhaps because his name is so unique. Btw, which Daichi are we talking about? |

This is the Internet. And, I like to write the shorter of the names for convenience. Of course, when face to face, I'll say Mr. "blank" but, seeing as how that's not the case... yeah.
Akitaroh Daichi. One of the most talented directors out there. He's a bit similar to Junichi Sato in that his court is in kiddie fare but... what a master he is!!! Must-see titles that he's done are Kodocha, Now and Then, Here and There(probably his only non-kiddie show), Grrl Power, and We Were There... He's simply one of the best. Period. |

Well, I'm not saying your way is wrong or anything (like I said, I think it's just a personal response thing). I might add, though, that Kenji is a really common name, whereas Kamiyama isn't as much, so it might not be the best idea to just call him Kenji. I mean, in this context it was relatively obvious who you were talking about, but elsewhere it might be Kenji who? I just finished re-watching GitS:SAC 2nd gig (just bought it) and am re-watching Moribito right now (deciding whether to buy it). While his still scenes in bot of these series were occasionally stilted (something he's continued to improve on over time), he is a master of animating action, and very good writer as well. I've heard really negative things about the first movie for this; could somebody tell me, without spoilers, what the main problems were? |

I just watched this recently so I don't really know the general opinion on it, but speaking for myself I think the main issue with the first movie was that nothing really happened; it was just a lot of talking. If we're talking about a more encompassing problem, though, I think the last few episodes of the series and both movies get pretty sloppy. I really liked this series in the beginning, but things sort of fell apart in the end. There was almost no focus on character development anymore, and the plot points that replaced it were either unsatisfying or didn't make much sense. I think the concept was just too big for 11 episodes, even with two movies tacked on. They had to wrap up a ton of plot points in very little time, so they had to come up with quick and easy solutions. I'm not saying that the series was bad; I'd still say it's worth watching. I think the end was just particularly disappointing to me in comparison to the beginning, which was SO good. :/ |

I'd have to agree. Their first encounter right up to when Akira meets his first "co-worker", it kinds wasn't the same feel anymore. It still is a gem of an anime, but... for those who based on first impressions vs. the entire picture... yeah there's gonna be some disappointment. I thought it was gonna be better than Moribito, given that Kenji seems to be one of those "gets better with age" directors. And... on a different level it was. Just a bit... constrained, like you said. |

I've watched both movies and really I had no problem with them.
I think the main issue is....if you're expecting them to be bigger and more epic just because they're movies, you're going to be in a world of disappointment... ...but if you're expecting something which is exactly in tone with the TV series, maybe you won't be. The films were originally supposed to season 2, but they made them into movies instead...and you can pretty much tell. Hell, they almost feel like compilation movies or something. But...they ARE Eden of the East films. I think the comment on the ANNcast that they're like the Matrix sequals isn't really accurate, since they don't really betray the tone or nature of the TV series in any way... As said before, the main complaint is that there's "too much talking", but really, their isn't anymore talking then there already was in the series in my opinion. And I think they do a pretty good job of tying things up. But really that's just my opinion. I think I had the extra benefit of watching them right after I finished the series, but...I don't think they deserve the bad Karma they've been getting |
