Since I saw and like the first season of this I finally ended up starting Genshiken 2 without high expectations. The first season seemed to have worked out its subject matter as well as it could and I thought a sequel could only be downhill.

However Episode 5 and 6 turned up something quite unexpected. Ogiue -- the somewhat reticent girl in the club that actually has drawing talent -- starts having doujinshi-themed BL fantasies about the boys in the club. It turns out to be one of the funniest things I have seen in anime in over a year. The contrast between the "real life" boys and the figures in the fantasy is hilarious. And of course Saki has her bit of fun with Ogiue when glimpses of all this are seen in Ogiue's drawings.

Actually Saki poses a somewhat interesting question in an earlier episode. She asks Ogiue can she draw convincing sex scenes if she has never had sex?

If you haven't seen it yet -- worth seeing.

Excellent. I was just think about Genshiken this morning, and pondering what the second season would be like.

I love the first season (and own it), but the 3-ep "OVA" as they call it (really, in terms of quality, just a dodgy DVD extra for the execrable Kuji-an TV show!) was such a time-waster, I thought. The tone was all wrong, and the comedy far too broad and obvious. And (of course) it didn't really take the characters anywhere.
The only really good thing about it was the introduction of Ogiue and her wonderful Little-My Moomin hair.

So yes, I was rather wondering whether they would recapture the magic for the second season. Glad to hear a positive endorsement.

Yeah, I first found it by accident. Actually I read the manga first in a library and I liked it a lot. Thus I checked the anime and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing that bugged me was that subplot of Kujikiri Balance. I mean it's amusing but maybe it's just the drawing that bugs me. The ending left me wanting for more closure.

It may just be me, I felt sorry for Kukichi. I mean spoiler[he left many bad impressions on girls by hitting Ogiue and he was just a comic relief character but more on a pathetic level like a town drunk.]

It's not complaint but I wish he had some break. This is one of the few animes that I enjoy watching in subtitles.

While I haven't seen all of Genshiken season two, I've read all the manga and really liked Oguie and her relationship to Sasahara. Then again, I really enjoyed seeing Sasahara grow as person as the series went on and even became a very interesting character.

The series is great and is truly one of kind, similar to Dragon Ball. There is a diffrence, but they are both series that truly do stand out. I must say though, for the first time since I heard Arakawa receiving a second season, I was surprised that Kio decided to continue the manga.

Actually thought that would never happen since the manga ended on a terrific note. Most the characters moved on, (graduated) so the newest manga will certainly be worth reading.

Genshiken season one and two are one of the very, very few shows that Media Blasters licensed that have almost zero fan service and is actually very much thought provoking, similar to the manga in that aspect.

The first season of Genshiken was definitely funny. The characters were great, and if you've been an anime fan for some time, you'll find a lot of similarities with yourself throughout each episode and it will having you laughing hard in some instances. I truly enjoyed it.

I didn't care much for the second season though. It focused too much on a certain type of manga genre during the first half of series rather than exploring otaku culture as whole which occurred in the first season. The focus was too much on Ogiue and her male on male fantasies. Although I like her in the series, I would have liked for the attention to be spread around more cause it felt like the characters from the first season were sort of ignored. The comedic factor decreased as well since it took a more serious tone towards the end. I definitely found the first season more enjoyable.

The second season was better if you enjoy slice of life/relationship anime more than oh no I'm an otaku/look at all these otaku things we do anime.
