I don’t know if this is a topic yet, but I wanted to express my love of when an anime screws with me. That is they have me expecting something desirable like fan service, or something familiar, then they trick you with turning it into muscle bound men, or an alternate that messes with your head.
The reason I bring it up is that Sora no Otoshimono ‘s second season’s opening tricked me with making me think it was the same of the first season, but it turned out that it was an alternate, with instead the male character with such things as uncensored nipples and winged penis. It screwed with my head but I found it absolutely hilarious, actually the first season did such screwing as well that I found funny, including a song titled ”my tingling nipples”, with creepy lyrics and the male lead squeezing his nipples.
I first witnessed such screwing in Inukami!, a series that made you think we would get naked ladies or some scary monster buy instead get naked men and a lot of “elephants”. For some reason it totally grossed me out, but it often leaves me laughing very hard, and have been some of the jokes that have stayed with me most. I have not seen it used nearly as much or as well in things other then anime. Though I think South Park might do simular things some times, for some reason it does not bring the same smile as what I get from some anime. Well I think it was also used quite a lot in the last season Mitsudomoe and I think is why some could not stand it being used there, but I found such parts where they shocked so much they reached a level of disgusting, I found the “pee part” funny.

Nice idea for a topic. I can only think of a couple right now:
Negima!?
When Negi is punished for sharing the secrets of magic with his students. Cue dramatic music, a shocking flash of light, and then uh...ChupaNegi? NegiCabra? . You could see that it was always going to be a joke a mile off, but it still made me laugh.
Tower of Druaga
An epic battle between a roper horde and a human army is rendered in glorious 8-bit! Being a retro-gaming fan, I found this pretty funny. Borderline trolling, but in a good way!
I'll edit in more if I can think of any.

By episode 4 or 5 of Endless Eight, I was rooting for them to just make the entire second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya nothing but Endless Eight episodes. I hated it, but that would have been glorious.

The first episode of Baccano I suppose, which seemed to be made exclusively for people who had already read the novels the show was based on.
Nonetheless, it was interesting, and I liked such things when the vice-president and the little girl were looking back on the series and discussing who the real main character should be
Of course, I was still so out off that it took me a while to garner up the the drive to watch the rest of the series, oh well...[/b]

Oh yeah I laughed at some points of Endless Eight, but it was mostly kind of crazy and the fact I thought there was no way they would do that, but they did.
There was a funny one done by by Katanagatari, they promised something in their preview and they ended up skipping the entire thing, then continued to go on about how epic it was. I really wanted to see that fight too.
I just remembered one of the biggest, there was an episode of Macademi Wasshoi! that was being very simular to Evangelion, with some unstoppable threat. I won't ruin what it is, but if you want to see it watch episode 5 or search Enter Hapshiel into youtube. I was scared (TV tropes has it down as nightmare fuel), but I laughed a lot, and probably one of the most interesting things about that series.

Yeah I can understand the sentiment of liking to be surprised. A classic example is the latter half of My Hime which is mostly depressing but then throws a cog into the works which makes it an upbeat ending. I really liked it. Anyhow, I usually like it when series do stuff that I didn't predict as opposed to stuff I was expecting, it's more entertaining that way.

Katanagatari has already been mentioned, but I think it bears repeating. As much as I would have loved to see the fight for the 4th sword, Nunally being amazingly creepy almost makes up for it.
I was able to somehow watch School Days without any spoilers going in. Suffice it to say, it did not end the way I initially though it would. Nice boat!

The first episode of Ga-rei was a big troll for fans of the manga, which it is supposed to be a prequel of: all the information initially released about the show was for a set of anime original characters and there were many complaints about them not having anything to do with the manga at all. At the end of the episode the whole lot of them are wiped out and the main manga characters are brought in.

From the moment that Kuroshitsuji II was announced and throughout the time preceding its first episode was a huge troll by everyone involved with the production. From the production staff, to the voice actors, and even the mangaka herself, everyone was involved in the trolling. The troll, of course was the claim that Ciel and Sebastian would not be in the second season whatsoever. There was even a special ceremony where Sebastian's seiyuu handed over the show's reins to Claude's seiyuu. Reports from the event described the attending fangirls crying their eyes out at the thought of no Sebastian in the show. When the troll was revealed, some fans were furious at having been tricked. Me, I laughed loud and hard.
