So they ban some anime for that, but are perfectly fine with authorizing the sale of pirated anime? If they would do something about that, then it would be much easier to find real stuff on eBay.

I completely agree with them on this point. Alot Anime for the most part in my opinion isn't suitable for children at all. Uncut shows like Dragon Ball Z can be a bit too violent for the little ones which is why I have no problem with cuts being made to the show if they are on a channel and time intended to pull in the younger viewer.

 That sounds like an incredibly vague and nebulous definition.
I guess it would help my personal understanding if there was a list of kid's shows that got through somewhere. Where exactly are they banning the anime from? I could understand if it was from a library or something, but the article makes it sound as though they want to ban it from the country. Limiting access to minors is one thing, but forbidding anyone to see the anime is ridiculous.

This is really getting out of hand. Cookies are bad for kids if done in excess, too much television is bad for kids, drinking soda is bad for kids and some say even recess is bad for kids. Yet, none (okay, maybe soda and recess in some states) have been banned, yet anime is getting all the blame. Anything done in excess can be harmful and everything has a consequence. Reading books in poor lighting or for a long period of time can be considered bad in excess as well. While I do agree some and I mean some censorship is fine, not every show should be censored. Perfect example is Dragon Ball Z. Yes, violence shouldn't always be used and politely talking the matter out should be done first. Which Goku has done since the begining of the series. It didn't work with the Red Ribbon Army, Freiza, Cell, Buu or Pilaf, so what makes anyone think it's going to always work in real life either? Yes, it's a fictional series, but there does come a time all the words in the universe won't do any good and action is the only method that will work. Anime and manga isn't for young kids. It's targeted audience is older kids to teenagers. And with some series (like seinen) the age bracket is 18-35. Not every series is going to be G rated or the minimally as Dragon Ball Z, parents need to see the age rating for each show and then decide for their child is mature enough for said series. And going off the cover image isn't always a good idea either. I though When They Cry would be a peaceful slice of life story, but boy was I wrong. Just because the image looks clean and cute doesn't mean the series will be. In fact, I think When They Cry should only be read by those 17 or older. |

Some of it is. Witness Doraemon. I guess Singapore has an animation ghetto too if they're just noticing that some anime and manga has scantily-clad women and is not meant for young children. That said, Singapore is also the perfect example of a nation where, in the careful trade-off between freedom and security, swings totally towards the latter. 100% protected children = paranoid censorship. |

Why do they have to go and censor everything?
No wonder we should go and make Malaysia and Singapore part of the United States. They need a serious lesson in freedom, including free speech, as punishment for their fucked-up censorship laws. |

So logically, "we" can't be the US. The only country that could conceivably "make" Malaysia and Singapore do anything is China, so logically I have to I assume you are Chinese, and you are saying that China should make Malaysia and Singapore join the US. But why would the US take them as states at China's bidding? |
