I'm definately going to keep my eye on this. I hope that it will do as well as Crunchyroll has been doing. This will definately be a step in the right direction.

I hope it's not only boy's love though...

Oh dear god! A manga publishing company that has decided to innovate instead of blaming the consumer for their lack of sales???

WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?!

What a fantastic and innovative idea. It looks like 2010 will be the year in which scanlations are finally combated head-on.

Mostly in BL?

Well, can't say that didn't sharply drop my level of interest. Nice to see at least a little innovation (or should I say, someone finally has begun to catch up) within manga distribution. If this goes well, I look forward to a legal method to obtain quickly (and properly) translated manga.

It seems like I saw something like this suggested in a recent Answer Man Ask the Fans segment. Like others I'm disappointed it's shounen-ai titles, but this could be interesting. I wonder if they will have any sort of editor in chief to assure some amount of quality.

I was so excited until I saw that it would be a few thousand boy love titles. Cool for those looking for that though.

They're using fan translators?

I hope they have someone fluent in English quality checking this. Most scans I've read were shitty because they try to go the absolutely-direct-translation route and the dialog feels stiff.

If I'm paying, I want professional level translation work. Bottom line. Good idea overall, though.

Yes, this is a good idea, but if they expect people to pay for these, they need to insure some level of quality. A large number of scanlations I've seen are garbage.

That's a great idea! Loves it!

There's a lot of BL fans that read manga online so hopefully they'll do it legally now that there's a legal option. Laughing

^This.

A step forward is a step forward, though. I've never read anything within that genre myself. I guess I should keep an open-mind?

From what I understand the BL genre is one of those genres that are very... genre. Like paper back murder mystery novels in the US. You either like it or you don't, with very little titles having crossover appeal to non-fans of the genre.
