OMG! Everyone who has not seen this show yet, WATCH IT RIGHT NOW!
It is absolutely amazing.
Even if you're not into dubs (Liam O'Brien is amazing in this show).
oohhhhh... I love this show so much.

Ugg. I've been trying to track down the box set for a good price. I'd watch it streaming.... but I hate dubs!
I watch the first episode fan-subbed a long ass time ago, it didn't really grab me, but I need something new and sci-fi and bonkers and anamorphic wide-screen. Figured this might fit the bill.

The dub is actually very good. Give it a shot. I'd say it's on par with the Japanese track.
Great series overall; it's one of my favorites. One word of warning though: if you're expecting a heavy cyberpunk series with plenty of action then you'll be disappointed. It may seem that way at first but about 6 eps in it turns into a slow paced journey of self-discovery that is heavily psychological.
It's a lot like Evangelion actually. The main characters are both searching for their purpose in life and whether they should follow a path created for them at birth or forge their own destiny.
Anyway, I love the setting and animation. The characters and their interactions are very well done and fun to watch. The plot can be a bit cryptic at first so you would benefit from rewatching it.
Highly recommended if you want something original and refreshing. Just be warned it can be slow-paced and definitely isn't for everybody. It has a "love it or hate it" relationship with many people. If you don't like it at first I'd say give it to about episode 6.
I own the DVDs but would love to see a Blu-Ray release; it actually aired in HD so it wouldn't be an upscale.

I watched about half of this show and it was decent, but I found it difficult to make out half of the actions in it, because almost every scene takes place in pitch dark.
It was a dark show. Literally.

That's really good. I watched about half of it ages ago and although there were elements I liked a lot, I found it tremendously boring. I've often been tempted to give it another chance though and see if I can get more into it. This will be a perfect way to do that.

It's only $38 at RightStuf. What's your definition of "good?"

I've heard a lot about this series and have been meaning to watch it for some time. I have one question though: wtf is Evanescence?

I'll also join in the chorus of recommendations for this show. It's a great show that, at times, you really need to pay attention to catch little hints or explanations of what is going on. Yes, it can be slow at times, but not every anime show needs to maintain a frenetic pace to be effective. And those who decry the lack of dubs should appreciate the dub track in this show, I thought it worked really well. Good pick ANN!
(edit)
P.S. Evanescence is an alternative rock band. (kids these days...)

Hahaha!! I'll take your word for it. I've been wanting to see this show for some time. But never got around to it. I sort of remember when it was AS. Even tried to make it a recommendation for my job, but it was never purchased. So now that it's being streamed I'll check it out.

One of the best science-fi anime along with Ghost in the Shell, if you liked one you'll probably like the other.

A good, thought provoking sci-fi anime. I liked the art quite a bit - it's a bit dark, but it matches the theme of the show quite well.

I first started buying anime about a year ago, and based on what I heard about this show I bought it. Great series, very Blade Runnerish. Was glad to see it added on all the other FUNimation streaming partners, and am glad to see it on here.

Ergo Proxy is a bit uneven, and has some storytelling problems, but it's a show that I like a lot despite these things. You have to basically understand that this is mostly an exercise in style over substance; its closest kin in terms of approach and execution are Ghost in the Shell: Innocence (a movie that a lot of people have problems with for similar reasons) and Texhnolyze. It's about atmosphere and characters first and second, with plot a distant third. It obfuscates for the sake of obfuscation just to be 'clever.' Accept those things as part of the deal and you're in for a treat.
Fans of Streamline and Animaze dubs should LOVE this. New Generation did a great job getting a lot of that California talent, as well as a few actors I'd never heard before. Karen Thompson is pitch-perfect as dismissive ice queen Re-L; coldly sexy. Liam O'Brien gets Vincent's wimpiness and angst just right, and Travis Willingham is SUPER, thanks for asking, as Re-L servant-bot Iggy. William Frederick Knight makes a great one-episode cameo as an old bookstore owner. Dub fans will know him as Aramaki in the GITS TV show and movies.
It's a neat show.
