Sweet! I've heard Justin mention the new player on a few podcasts so I'm excited it is actually here. CR has been my destination of choice for legit streams to date, but I can see ANN becoming another big go-to place for me.
I tells ya, it's never been a better time to be an anime addict.

If you read though the article then you can see that the answer is YES. Nobody's Boy Remi will be region locked for Canada.
I just hope we don't run into a lot of regional restrictions to the point where the best stuff can only be accessed in the US.

Well, that's nice. This may be a good chance for me to watch some older stuff.

I don't suppose you got better versions of some of the Toei shows than what's previously streamed? The video quality of what I've seen of Pretty Cure and Air Master are horrid.

Awesome! Now why did I decide to study in Japan this summer? I can't get any of the goods!
There's only a few channels I have real access to on TV, so my options for legal anime viewing in Japan narrow down to watching the small stash I brought with me or watching such shows as Chibi Maruko-chan on Sunday. geez
There's irony for you.

Well, so far it seems that ANN will be streaming shows that have either been released in North America on DVD or were streamed already, hence subtitling work is already done.
I'm just curious, though, if ANN might start getting shows that haven't been made available already. And not to compete against CrunchyRoll so much as it is to just make sure that more shows are made available for viewing over here. There would be a good number of shows that I'd consider watching, or rewatching, streamed that haven't been made available in North America before.
But great job either way, ANN!

Great news ANN, with your first direct license of Nobody's Boy Remi. I'm sure I'll want to subject myself to a well-done, and equally depressing anime. I'm not being snarky either, I really do lament not picking up the dvd's when they were being sold. But now I get a chance to watch the show.
Now I just need to take the time to watch some of this stuff with your new player. Hope this works well for you, I'd be curious to see what kind of public draw you can pull in with a better player and a rather impressive lineup of choices. Good work and good luck!

Sadly, most of them will be. We're usually only given North American rights (and in the case of Remi, only US rights). Often times our rights come from North American companies like Funimation, so they don't even have International rights to give us.
We always try to get rights for as many markets as possible, but it's hard.
The economy of the Internet is such that, with a few exceptions, regular global streaming is still several years off.

I believe that we're re-encoding those.

It'd be cool if we could bring out some of the super-duper nichey/arthouse kinda stuff. I think I could die happily if we could stream Kaiba. Unfortunately it just missed the boat on a lot more stuff getting picked up for simulcast; Kaiba's a Madhouse/Masaaki Yuasa collab, as is the Tatami Galaxy, which FUNimation is currently simulcasting. (On the other hand, that's part of their new noitaminA deal, and Kaiba wasn't a noitaminA title, so maybe I'm just kidding myself that it would have had a chance as a simulcast.)

The French-boy show sounds interesting. I might check that out. Here's hoping your player isn't a jankfest like Funi's.

Kaiba would be great. That needs to come out, whether streaming or BD release.

I have long been aware that my logical thought processes are very different from everyone else's. So it is with great humility and not a little embarrassment that I ask "Where do I download the player?"
