What's this? Naruto fell of the charts and 5 One Piece books made it again? Is this bizarro world?

So 'Twilight' is #1 on the list. But 'Yotsuba' is always the best. I really gotta plop down some money and buy those books for myself.

If the One Piece anime hadn't been been butchered by 4Kids it would probably be doing even better.
If I recall correctly, in Japan Naruto seems to have an even harder time competing with One Piece.

And the second time all they fall off in chart within a week
Also the list seem to be devoid of placeholders like Naruto, Black Butler, Soul Eater and Maximum Ride, which has been on the chart for more than a month

Yes it does. One Piece can easily clear over a million copies its first week were as Naruto sells only in the 600-900 thousands its first week, depending on the contents of the volume. I think its safe to say that One Piece really is the cash cow of Shonen Jump's existence.
As happy as I am about the fact that All 5 One Piece volumes are up, I have a feeling all of them will not be there next week.

Black Butler came out in January. It's about time it left the list... But Volume 2 comes out this month, so we'll be seeing it again soon.
Vampire Knight Volume 10 is approaching us as well, so that's another guaranteed list-maker.

I read an article somewhere on Mangablog that the reason why these manga in particular are usually on the NYT's bestseller's list for only a week is because most of the buying is done by libraries that first week. That explains why manga like One Piece only stays on the list for like a week.
I'd buy those One Piece volumes as they'd come out but, daaayum, it gets to be really expensive...(especially with all the other manga I try to keep up with )

Naruto will probably be back next week.
It's still nice to see the current set of One Piece volumes doing well for a week, though. I just finished reading Skypiea & it's FINALLY getting good.

There is no competition at all in Japan. One Piece is the best selling manga series of all time over there (with the caveat that I can't recall ever seeing reliable sales information for Astro Boy).
Naruto has sold roughly half of what One Piece has overall in Japan.
