SACRALIDGE!!!! If ANY replica should be built at the foot of Mt. Fuji, it should be the Photo Atomic Research Institute! Anime hyper j/k

Still, it's pretty neat. They should build MORE robot replicas! Wink

this has to be distracting if you're a native of the country. It's like putting Ronald Mcdonald on Mt. Rushmore.

Daw, it's just a bust? I wanted to see a full, 80 meter Evangelion.

Still, it looks rather wonderful.

"At the foot of Mt. Fuji" is highly misleading.

What is this, sankaku complex?

It's in an _amusement park_ that's located in the _foothills_ of Mt. Fuji.

Wow. Japan's entry in this year's diarama-rama is pretty strong.

We just may have to pull George Lucas into this year's so we can counter with giant Star Wars figures in their original packaging.

The park is not actually on the mountain itself, and the previous Gundam attractions were housed in buildings, so even the park's roller coasters stood out more against the landscape.

"See that Shinji? That is... a babe magnet"
"I get to pilot this? Do I get a watch?"

Heheh, always fun to see more giant mech homages being made.

A life size Death Star would do nicely I think or full sized Sand Crawler, that'd be sweet.

I'm surprised they picked a statue of Kowaru instead of Shinji. But even if they used Shinji, I would be a bit surprised.

I would expect Rei or Asuka. Complete with panty-shot poses.

They probably did it on purpose lol. Just think of all the otaku who would flock to Rei and Asuka... and likely take creepy pics XD

Kaworu is really popular with female fans. To the point that its a joke in the Addition Audio Drama that "quick, we need a ratings boost...bring in Kaworu!' etc.

Apparently, as has been explained to me by female fans, and I only vaguely understand this on an academic level...female fans think yaoi and bishounen stuff is really exiting. Something along the lines of their version of what for guys would be "OMG, Angelina Jolie kisses Gwyneth Paltrow in upcoming movie"

From a strictly psychological perspective, Kaworu is also an interesting character because he's the only person in the series who ever openly expresses any affection for Shinji-- yes, Misato is kind to him, Asuka is tsundere at him and Rei is... Rei, but Shinji can (and does) rationalize all of their potential care for him. Kaworu has no reason to like Shinji, but he does, and he's open about it. So I think that part of what makes him an interesting character is that he offers Shinji a (very brief) moment of potential emotional rescue, and in the end his death seems to be a very major cause of Shinji's worsening depression throughout the last two episodes and End of Eva-- all despite his short screen time. I mean, really all Shinji wants is to be loved, and Kaworu offers that-- he's kind of the only not-broken character in the series (despite his true identity).

So I dunno, totally aside from any potential hoyay, I'm really not too surprised they'd use Kaworu as a statue. He's a pretty neat character.
