There's a lot worse anime out there than Devil May Cry, and it's a lot more fun than most of the "okay" ones. Plus Dante's hot. It's just pure entertainment, anyone expecting some deep, philosophical story is a fool. Just enjoy it.
But most of the reviews here are bad anyway, and all the reviewers are so arrogant and love the sound of their own... typing..? Why do any of you watch anime at all if you hate it so much? |

You know, it's so obvious it's not even funny. I think it would serve you slightly better if you just come out and say it with just a touch of honesty: "I'm a pissed off fandrone, and your opinions are all wrong." |

Yeah you're right I should hire people who have absolutely no standards or taste or anything like that, people who blindly enjoy everything because that's what real fans do. Only arrogant snobs dislike things. |

A harsh, but fair review. I have seen only the first episode of the show, but it wasn't always pretty, yet always stupid and absolutely unfunny.
However, it really made me want to play a DMC game because they are supposed to be good (at least the first two or so). Edit: I'll keep that advice in mind, thanks Last edited by Labbes on Wed Feb 17, 2010 2:00 pm; edited 1 time in total |

1 and 3. Avoid 2 and 4 at all costs. |

Yeah, but there's too many better ones out there for me to waste my time with this one.
As someone who has been a fan of the games since the first one, I seriously can't understand how any fan of the games can enjoy this series. I found it near insulting... As for the review, I couldn't have worded it better myself. And god, Patty... she was the ultimate aspect of the series that killed it for me. After the first episode she had no purpose other than to provide a superficial aura of cuteness which apparently is a requirement for all anime these days . |

So anime fans aren't allowed to dislike a particular show? Seriously, I'm a fan of the games, and I even bought the anime because I enjoyed it, but I'll be the first one to say that it was average at best. Like a lot of anime based on games, this is pretty much fans only, and even that can be a stretch. Last edited by Greed1914 on Thu Feb 18, 2010 12:55 am; edited 1 time in total |

I guess almost everything that I wanted to say about this series has already been said, but I can't say that anything of this series even remotely appeared to be "chaotic". If there was anything close to this, then I would agree on that term. This series would have been a lot better with that kind of mentality behind the storyboarding of the fights. Instead, the series is just about Dante cutting down demons in the most boring way possible.
The opening music was fitting for the series, but I can't say I remember anything else about the soundtrack. Meh, in any case, at least it got me interested in playing my copy of DMC 3 again. |

That's because the opening was the only song worth remembering. It fits DMC and the animation with it was nice, but the rest of the soundtrack is forgettable. |

Devil May Cry is a grand exercise in utter mediocrity. I'd compare it to someone running a marathon who, rather than run the whole length, dashed out about 100 meters and then stopped to jog in place the equivalent of the distance. It starts out with gorgeous animation, an opening to kill for, and a decent first episode with some nice artsy moments - and then nothing happens for the rest of the series! It just repeats the same formula, there's no progression of plot, to development of character. It's pretty to look at, sure, but it lacks even the "so bad it's good moments" that redeem many a lousy series, and falls into the realm of "totally forgettable." Yes, there are massively worse series out there (it does have stunning art), but there are even more series that are better.

well i would not call them arrogant snobs. Just Misguided. But then again I am one of them cause I only watch english dubs and avoid any sub only releases like a plague. Probably why I enjoyed the series more than the reviewer. Sure it'a a preety fair doesn't make sence at all but most gorefest series are like that and it's better that way for fans of hack and slash violence. To me the instrumental OP is one of the biggest plus in the series and it's a blast to hear. And though it has some issuses, like with Madhouse's other series Black Lagoon , it's sounded much more natural in english than in japaneese dub. Over all DMC has it's faults but it's a preety good series, though it's a definate rental for non fans of the game. Luckily I'm a fan of the game and the series so it's a definate add to my shelf. |

This review was very fair to this title. I remember now how I watched the first episode over at Funimation's site and thought it looked pretty good, watched the second (and maybe third) episode, and then got busy with something else.
I completely forgot to watch the rest of it. In fact, I forgot that I forgot that I never even watched the whole thing until I just now read this review. That's how forgettable this show is. |

4 is alright, I don't get the hate it gets from some fans (repeated bosses and levels aside). But 2 we can all agree was a turkey. |

I'd hardly consider this anime for fans of the game only. I can assure you that I enjoyed this anime more than a lot of the fans of the game. And I sincerely wouldn't find it "badass" to see Dante killing demons as his pizza flies around the room. Definitely not. The anime did a fairly good job, it just lacked more about Dante's background; more of his brother and father. And it was far from receiving a conclusion; that's another massive minus. The overall score seems a bit weird to me. Story received a C-, while animation had a B+, Art A-, and music C+. But the overall comes out as a C-? Just curious... |
